some time ago someone had a thread on a ford pickup tow truck so that inspired me to also build one, i already had the kit in my stash so i started to look for pictures and reference on the interweb.

than i started designing my own version loosely based on a period Weaver auto crane.

here some initial mock up shots of the bed and crane i designed and printed.

haven't decided on paint scheme yet, but i think it will be two tone orange blue or white red.

That is a very nice crane. Those were manual? My brother did a copy of a Manley 3-pole boom that was accurate. Those were electric but had a provision to be hand cranked.

Great looking 37 Ford Pickup/Tow truck project Eran.  Those 3D printed parts look pretty nice.

Like the period looking bed equipment. Can you imagine what it must have been like to crank that by hand to lift a car or truck? These were manly men.

They had quite a gear reduction, but it was WORK to hoist a car up.

Great looking wrecker. I see red & white paint. Does that mean we'll see some Texaco decals on those doors? I can't wait to see it come together.

More progress today, almost finished the truck itself. there's an annoying gap between the hood and the body that i couldn't get rid off, so i'll live with that.

next I'll turn my attention to finishing the crane itself
