Horrorshow Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 I have a couple small overspray issues on my next build, any tips for removing them?

I use a Q tip or fold up the corner of a paper towel with very little paint thinner (for enamel paint) on it then lightly rub the over spray off. then clear coat. Edited June 24, 2024 by yh70

Your picture is a bit blurry, but I don’t see any overspray? Are you referring to these spots where maybe the paint leaked under the masking tape? If so, I have used a sharp hobby knife to very very lightly scrape it off. A fine sanding stick may work too with a delicate touch. If it is in fact overspray, then maybe a wet sanding and then polishing would work.

It’s the two black marks beneath the arrows.
av405 Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 Try yh70's idea, but try to use a pointed q-tip or something with a pointed tip. Use just a bit of thinner and don't apply too much pressure. If that goes through the blue paint, then just lightly sand the area with something like 1000 grit and give it a quick pass or two with the blue paint (with the pillars masked, of course).
StevenGuthmiller Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 I would try to stay away from any solvents. Any amount of solvent on a paint job would make me a little nervous. My suggestion would be to sand it off with a very fine sanding pad, typically used for polishing. Steve 1
stitchdup Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 have you tried a cutting compound like t-cut on a q tip. you'd have to wash it after but it should take it off
Hi-Po Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 I have used full strength Simple Green on a Q-tip to remove overspray with good results. Be sure to clean the area thoroughly before applying anymore paint/clear, etc.
slusher Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 I would use a sanding pad 1000 or higher then wax..
Can-Con Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 A little rub with some polishing compound [Tamiya for example] will take that right off. I do it all the time.
Horrorshow Posted July 2, 2024 Author Posted July 2, 2024 Thanks for the tips everyone, I ended up using 1200 grit paper and lightly sanded.
Skip Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 Mask it off. Use a Q-Tip and paste cleaner car wax and buff it away. I've done this on a larger scale on full sized vehicle paint oopses it works. 1
stavanzer Posted July 23, 2024 Posted July 23, 2024 I thank Everyone for the Tips, as well. I have run into this myself, and been stumped on how to fix. No More Purple Pond.... Thank You.
