e30lover Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 Hey all, Here’s my full build detail for the Moebius 65’ Plymouth Belvedere! I wanted to create stock hot-rod look so I bought set of Mopar steelies and wider tires from Fireball Modeworks, and mixed colours to simulate DD1 medium blue metallic. I thought about making a990 but decided to build mostly box stock - and chose 426 Commando for the engine. Here’s the full build process: Scribed all panel lines - door panel lines were almost non existent so I had to use scribing guides Wet sanded the entire body with 1000 grit to remove flashes and other uneven spots Applied grey primer and wet sanded with 1500 and 2000 grit to remove any imperfections Mixed Mr. Color’s GX metallic blue, metallic green and Tamiya gloss aluminum for body Laid 2 base coats and 3 clear coats (super clear II - I wet sanded the first clear coat with 2000 grit)cured the paint for a month Wet sanded with 3000, 6000 and 8000 grit Polished with tamiya 3 stage compounds and hasegawa ceramic compound Masked the body and painted window trims Gave a light weathered effect on the underbody Dechromed front grille and air cleaner - I painted the air cleaner with Alclad and painted the grille with gloss aluminum then gave it a panel wash Front and rear windows weren’t in great shape (and rear had a hairline crack) - I sanded the whole thing starting with 1000 grit and polished them Painted the interior with mixture of body colour and flat black to simulate two tone blue interior and finished off with flat clear on top As for the Moebius kit itself, I had some issues with it - ill fitting front & back windshield, very shallow panel lines especially for the doors and the plymouth letter decal didn't perfectly align to the embossed letters on the body, but I think additional details such as door lock button really elevates the potential of this kit. 26
