RoninUtah Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Before the mid ’60, a significant percentage of tractor-trailer hauling was done using smaller tractors, most of which were 2 axle and gas powered. Before the development of the Interstate highway system, nearly all hauls were short compared to today, especially considering the incredibly complex bureaucratic process required to obtain operating authorities for each state. A haul from New Jersey to North Carolina and back was a big deal! One of the post popular tractors of its day was the White WC series. Until recently, there weren’t any options for these in 1/24 or 1/25 scale, although a decent version of the iconic round-fronted White 3000 COE has been around for a while. This one is the latest offering from Dans Models, AKA CIP, from Romania. Typical for their products, it is a well detailed 3D print, correctly proportioned and crisply detailed. It was a fairly easy build and everything fir together nicely; my only issue is that some of the smaller parts got lost in the forest of reinforcing “twigs” printed with each part; also, some were so thin (such as the mirror brackets) that they were unusable. I put this one on an AMT White Freightliner SD chassis; it is strictly curbside with no engine. The front wheels are from a Mack and the rears are leftover AITM 6-spoke wheels, maybe a little overscaled for this little truck. The gray and red paint scheme was one of the two standard paint schemes offered by White in 1949 (The other being all red). The trailer is a Herb Deeks resin that I’ve had for years. So, this is pretty representative of what was considered to be a “big rig” in the day of two-lane highways and no power or automatic anything. It would have been powered by a 6-cylinder “Super Power” gas engine through a 5-speed transmission, and maybe with a 3-speed Brownie. It took a tough guy to handle this rig! 6
Gary Chastain Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Wow, that is such a really cool build, well done
Rockford Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Fantastic stuff, looks perfect. Some say it was better under the ICC, instead of today's race to the bottom.
stavanzer Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Awesome Build, of a forgotten truck. You really portrayed the truck well. Those Drivers were indeed, "Iron Men". Good Show.
happy grumpy Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 A nice departure from what we are used to see. A real nice addition to the great variety we have on this forum. Beautiful job.
leafsprings Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 Great choice for a classic truck build and appears to be a very nice resin piece. Great job on this important chapter of trucking history!
Zippi Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 That's a good looking 49 White. I really like the old stuff.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Very nice work! I really like that trailer! I have one of the cabs that I hope to build, I need to find one of those trailers! Yours looks great! 1
Smitty Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Very, very nice job on your White Ron. You’ve really done this truck justice! I’ve been hoping for a model of this one for a very long time.

I love watching those old “industrial “ movies from the 40s and 50s promoting trucks on YouTube, and I was always frustrated at how common White Super Powers were back then, but none were available in 1:24 or 1:25 scale. So I was super excited when Dans came out with this one. Kudos to them!
