ABC Auto Industry Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 I wanna buy a 1970 Dodge Challenger kit as part of a series of models I call "what if Mad Max took place in America?", and I need a car to represent the Nightrider's stolen Pursuit Special. I'm trying to decide between the AMT/Ertl and Revell kits, but I don't know which one is better. However, if anyone knows of any 1970 Challenger kits that are superior, I'm open to suggestions.
stavanzer Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 If you are going to be doing a lot of modifications to it, I'd get whichever is Cheapest/Easiest to get. Lindberg makes a Challenger too. Monogram (now Revell) https://modelkitreviews.proboards.com/thread/132/monogram-2214-1970-dodge-challenger AMT (now Round2) https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/amt-instructions/automotive-cars--pi/dodge/amt-1970-dodge-chal/ https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/amt-instructions/automotive-cars--pi/dodge/amt-yankee-challeng/
Mark Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 The AMT Challenger has a convertible body with a separate, add-on roof for the hardtop version. There are two Revell kits. One is the ex-Monogram T/A which is in 1/24 scale. The other is the ex-Vanishing Point diecast, now molded in plastic. Claimed to be 1/25 scale, but little different in size from the 1/24 scale one. The Lindberg (ex-PSM) kit is a crib of the MPC annual. It is a '72. 1

Yeah...I'm gonna have to rule out the Lindberg kit because to me, the kit HAS to be a 1970 model.
Carmak Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 How would you define what a "best kit" is? There are multiple 70 Challenger kits out there and each has strengths and weaknesses. Are you looking for most detailed engine, most detailed chassis, body with best proportions, kit that builds most easily out of the box? Also does it matter which body style or version of 70 Challenger it is? 1
