I bought this kit about 34 years ago. At least the box says it was manufactured in 1990 and the price was $7.99. So I dug it out of the closet and did a quick search on e-bay and its going for a low of $20 to a high of $50.  So why not just go ahead and build it!  I decided I would glue the top on the body first. But the top is not as wide as the bottom body. So I decided to glue one side on, wait for the glue to dry and then glue the other side on. Wrong! What I should have done is clamp the bottom of the body to compress it so that I could glue both sides at the same time. So last night I had a real plastic and glue mess on my hands. If you would have told me last night that I would have the result in the last two photos, I wouldn't have believed it.

So this morning I had my work cut out for me. I sanded, added plastic strip, putty and sanded some more. Putty and sand, putty and sand. So I finally got the panel lines and door lines straight and the center kinda rolled section on the doors and side window looks smooth and rounded enough. So since the remnants of Berle (sp?) are suppose to dump a lot of rain on us over the next couple of days, I quickly gave all the body parts a coat of primer, rubbed the body out some more, and then painted Tamiya Brilliant Blue on all the body parts and followed with 2 coats of Krylon clear lacquer.

After a couple of hours, I started rubbing out the fender unit and the hood. I haven't started rubbing out the body yet as it was the last painted. So I will have plenty to do while its raining over the next couple of days. I need to find another engine, wheels and tires, brush paint the running boards, rub out the body, etc, Thanks for looking! ?

Very nice progress John, and it’s looking good. Yeah the roof fit on these leaves a lot to be desired. I have completed one and have one partially done. The second one I installed pins to keep things aligned while the glue dried. Looking forward to what you do with it.??

The 36 Ford is looking good John.  I'm liking the blue.  Yeah, these two piece bodies are a pain to deal with.  Love these body styles though.

Thanks, Anthony, Greg and Bob! I appreciate your comments!

Fortunately, we survived Hurricane Beryl but it was rough weather most of the day. We're running on generator power still and I don't know when the power will be restored. But I'm still working on this model to pass the time. I did have a chance to paint the top and the running boards yesterday before the storm and today I have been rubbing it out and adding the chrome foil on the hood, grill and windshield trim. Everything is done on the body and I think it will all line up well once it is glued down. I think I will use the engine from the 60 Ford truck I just finished as it is a three carb set-up and its small lengthwise so I think it will fit. The top didn't come out exactly the color I was looking for. I guess the brown over blue didn't work so well so I guess I just say its sun faded. I am also toying with the idea of leaving the rumble seat closed and not putting a handle on it. What do y'all think? Thanks for looking! ?

Glad you made it through Hurricane Bery ok.  The paint and bright work looks Great.  Make the rumble seat functional.  That's what I did on mine.

Very nice work, I have one I started, took some time to get the roof and body seams.. seamless. I should dig it out. The last one I built was around 1964.

Thanks, Jack, Bob, Carl, and Bob! I appreciate your comments!  Jack, glad to hear you made it through Beryl ok. See you at the show at the end of the month! Carl, the interior color is Krylon Satin Brown Boots.

I'll have additional photos tomorrow. Working on the engine, chassis, wheels and tires. Thanks for looking! ?

Finished the interior and the wheels and tires. Not much in the interior - painted Krylon Satin Brown Boots with a Brilliant Blue dash, steering column and wheel. I painted a set of tires in the parts box using a circle template cut into an index card and secured it to the tires with four pieces of doubled over Tamiya tape. I used Tamiya white primer and touched it up with Tamiya acrylic white. Doesn't look too bad! The wheels are from the Ford F-100 pick-up that I just finished. I also used the engine from that kit with a few adjustments but I didn't do any detailing so not much to see there.

I had to add a piece of channel plastic to the bottom of the fender unit to mount it on the frame in order to raise the front end a bit so it at least might look like the front wheels have enough clearance to turn. Such are the vagaries of scale. Some of the photos are mock-ups but the last photo has everything glued together. Now I just have the final pieces of hardware to glue on after a good coat of wax. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, Dan, Bob, and Carl! I appreciate your comments! Dan, looking forward to the show at the end of the month. See ya there!

This one is finished! I didn't use the kit bumpers and brackets or the taillights since I really don't like that Art Deco style and the brackets were too long. I used tear drop taillights that fit the fender which just happened to be on the chrome tree in the kit. The bumpers and brackets are extra parts from the parts box that came from a 48 Ford convertible. I fashioned a side mirror from spare mirror and a straight pin. The rumble seat works and the hood fits reasonably well. I used the engine from the 60 Ford F-100 that I didn't use in the pick-up build. I did turn the fan belt around and painted the extra plastic on the left of the belt to look sort of like an alternator of sorts. I didn't bother with any detail, such as, plug wires on the engine. More photos in the "Under Glass" section. Thanks for looking! ?
