LDO
I want to build a “beer run” Spitfire. The British air dropped beer to their soldiers after the Normandy invasion (D-Day). I think this is about the coolest thing ever. It’s for a friend of mine to hang from the ceiling of his game room. I have read that some were dropped by Hawker Tempests and even American planes. I have not seen photos of these, but I suppose that could be artistic license for a model (who could say my model is inaccurate?). Thank you. Duane Garner
My Hobby Lobby has an assortment of small wooden barrels that I used to replace the ones in the Beer Wagon kit. Sorry to say, I threw out the plastic ones
Bainford
That's a great story. I never heard that before. Are you building it in 1/24?

Yes, but I don’t know the exact size of the Beer Wagon barrels or the barrels that were carried by Spitfire. The photo of one near the landing gear of a Spitfire doesn’t help much, since I’m not that familiar with the plane. I finally saw a photo of an air dropped barrel with a man next to it, and a mention of the name of the barrel. It holds about 18 gallons. Mini Art, a model company from Europe, makes two sets of beer barrels of different sizes, in 1/35 and 1/48. I’m ordering one of each to see if any of them will work. That company makes a crazy amount of diorama accessories. Even things like a 1940s lathe and mill. Edited July 22 by LDO
