2003 Ryan Newman Dodge Intrepid R/T Roger Penske's 50th win celebration sheme

#12 Alltel Team rolled out this throwback Penske scheme for the 2003 Pop Secret 400 at Rockingham.

This was celebrate Roger Penske's 50 wins in NASCAR.
This scheme is the same as Roger used in the early 70's with Allison driven AMC Matador's.

This kit is similar in component construction to the ‘Snaptite Pro Finish’ kit and requires gluing and painting.
The Intrepid R/T kit with the four-part radiator grille was not widely distributed in Japan, and I purchased mine from a Canadian hobby shop website.

Decals is JWTBM's "#12 Alltell Penske 50 Wins Ryan Newman 2003" .
Decal ordered from "Mike's Decals" as usual.

The body was sprayed with Tamiya Spray's TS-44 Brilliant Blue, TS-26 Pure White and TS-49 Bright Red, but the blue was a darker colour than the actual car blue.

Nice work. Looks great. Hope you got a good exchange rate on the Canadian dollar.

I get paid by American clients in US dollars and they are worth 30% more in the exchange rate.

Nice clean work!  I own a AMC 74 Matador coupe so that scheme is close to home! Also met Ran a number of times....good guy.

Thanks, Johnny.

When I bought this kit from a Canadian hobby shop, the exchange rate was also 30% cheaper, I believe.

Very nice!

Thanks, PappyD340.

This time the kit was almost box stock, but it was easy to make.

It's great that you own an AMC 74 Matador.
I actually started building my AMT Penske Matador yesterday.
It is an old kit and needs a lot of refurbishment, but I will take my time in building it.

Very well done!  Great throwback livery.

Thanks, bbowser.

Painting the NASCAR kit with the Throuback paint scheme and applying the decals is a great way to experience the history of NASCAR, in addition to the fun of the production itself.

I have a NASCAR Matador in process (for a while). I used two AMT 1990 NASCAR Thunderbird chaassis to make a much better chassis for the Matador. Good luck!

My 1/1

Looks great!  You did a fantastic job with the paint.

Thanks, Jim N.

I don't use an airbrush, I spray paint, and this time it worked out alright.

Thanks, Rattlecan, IJ001.

I also have an airbrush, but it is a pain to maintain, so I always end up painting with Tamiya colour sprayers. Sometimes I make mistakes, but this time I was able to paint it so-so well.
