Question on AMX funnycar

Recommended Posts

Alan is correct. The AMX funny car kit is one of many JoHan kits AMT marketed.

While I know of no exact repop of the AMX F/C chassis I'd start with a recent AMT Vega funny chassis. It will get yyou in the ballpark. Be a cool project. thx

I have a photo of AMX-1 in my collection of internet car pics that rolls on a slideshow whenever I am at the bench. I always though it would be a cool project, and have given some thought to a chassis. As Dave mentioned, the AMT Vega or Gremlin funny car would likely provide a suitable chassis. I have also thought that the MPC Wild Willy Borsche or Pure Hell altereds might work, or perhaps the Atlantis (Revell) Fiat altered, though haven't done any actual sizing up of things to check suitability. This particular car was in fact built on the chassis of an ex-Fiat altered. Any of these chassis will likely require modification to fit the AMX body.

I have a copy of the instructions if you need them

Thanks much butI have that part covered.

All the other replies were helpful, I know the model companies used past kit parts on future kits, such as the Revell 22 double drag kit had the complete chassis assy for the Dodge Revellion . I was hoping to get lucky again..

Thanks all , Ken

AMX-1 was originally a fuel altered.  Funny cars made more money, so the AMX body was added.  The MPC Bantam Blast kit chassis is the closest thing out there for that car.

The original two-seat AMX annual kits were Jo-Han, but ALL of them were sold by AMT, in AMT boxes.  None of them with the funny car chassis were ever sold in a Jo-Han box.  AMT sold the '68 in one box, '69 and '70 in two boxes (with different stock numbers) for each year.

The Polar Light FC chassis was inspired by the original Jo-Han kit bits and would be a better place to start from. The chassis in the AMT Vegas etc is a poor match to it. Jo-Han used a very similar chassis in a host of funny cars such as the Olds 442. The only Jo-Han FC kits that did not share the same chassis lineage was the Challenger and the MT Pinto/Mustang. The Challenger was pretty accurate for the Gene Snow car while the MT kits were accurate for those cars.
