Zippi Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 Ok fellows....I'm in the mood for something wild and gassy. I've built a few before but this time around I'd like to maybe try a foreign car in 1/24 scale. Maybe a hatchback to give some room for those Big ole meats. I've got a set of wheels & tires ready to go. Show me some pics of some kits or what you saw or built to give me a little inspiration. I'm thinking maybe a Tamiya or Hasegawa kit. Let's see what ya got fellows. 3
espo Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 I don't remember which member it is here but they're doing a French Citroen. Find a Rolls Royce or a MB maybe. There used to be a real nice Volvo Shooting Brake (wagon to us) kit. Hillmen Minx or a Morris Minor maybe?
Fat Brian Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 There's a BMW 2002 gasser around the Michigan area.
bill-e-boy Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 Volvo wagon - there was a BTC version a few years ago Pee off the purists and do a modern Ferrari or Lambo There is the Pommie Austin by Revell Fart 500 or original Mini -although both are a bit small Oz Holden - kits are expensive to start with A Jappa van - a number of kits are available A Mazda Rotobater with a blown roto engine And (HA HA) - a front driven Jappa with the slicks on the front and skinnies at the back This is getting silly
rattle can man Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 how about a Renault (Dauphine, R4, etc) or Citroen 2CV?
Keef Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 The gullwing Mercedes would make a wicked looking gasser 1
Richard Bartrop Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Fiat Topolinos are the classic foreign gasser And what's this I hear about "too small?" 3
rattle can man Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Have a look around Hobby Link Japan (unless you have a particular prototype in mind). Lots of Japanese and European small and sports cars to choose from.
Richard Bartrop Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 George Klass's site is a gold mine of crazy vintage gasser pics http://web.archive.org/web/20200223131535/http://www.georgeklass.net/index.html
Russell C Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 While this would need the nose aimed toward the sky and a straight axle underneath, it gets the basic sacrilege idea across. https://www.speedhunters.com/2013/07/thats-how-we-rolls-racing-like-royalty/ Now, if somebody would do a Corniche or Silver Shadow kit in 24th/25th scale .... (well, there is the Franklin Mint diecast in that scale) 1
stitchdup Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 this was at sema a couple years back. v8 swapped and rwd
Zippi Posted August 19, 2024 Author Posted August 19, 2024 Thanks fellows. I appreciate all the info and pics.
Horrorshow Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Pretty sure any car would look cool as a gasser.

TarheelRick Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 I am in the process of gathering parts to build a Toyota Celica into a supercharged SBF powered gasser. Still trying to source a blown small block Ford, other than the Paxton Y-block in the '57 kit.
Skip Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Depends if you are talking 70’s and older NHRA & AHRA Foreign Car Gas Classes, which were Anglias , Poplars, Prefects (English Ford), Jaguar XKE, Volkswagen Type I (Bugs) ran F/G through I/G classes, toss in a few other mostly English like the Lloyd. Trouble with most Foreign Cars in the true Gas Classes we’re their short wheelbases of Less than 100 inches, many of them had way less than the minimum wheel base. If memory serves me correct, Anglias were allowed in under a NHRA Rule change, one reason there were tons of them. Now, if you’re talking, the (Neo-)Gassers like they are running now, I’m not 100% sure what they are allowing for manufacturers body’s. Pretty sure a quick peruse through their rules will tell us that. Street Gassers, Street Freaks, we’ll that’s pretty much up to the builder, because there are no rules other than state and fed motor vehicle laws.

The Quadzilla and Krusher Monogram monster trucks have a 302 with a ridiculously big supercharger that would look good in a gasser.
rattle can man Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Looking forward to a good fantasy build. I've got too many projects in my head as well as on the bench. But a Renault 4CV gasser is definitely sometime in the next round of projects.

I'm no really looking to follow any rules or regulations, just wanted to build something really kewl and over powered with some Big ole meats. I did just pick up a 51 Anglia Street Rod at the swap meat at the Frog Follies car show.

I hear ya Brian. I already have a couple engines picked out from the Iceman that I'd like to use.

A Renault 4CV would look pretty kewl as a Big ole blown Gasser. I've had this idea ever since I build my Candy Lime Green 51 Henry J Gasser with the Big ole wheels and tires from an M2 kit. I guess I'll know it when I see it on what I want for a body. Edited August 28, 2024 by Zippi
