Getting increasingly more curious about these era Mopars, as I have came across several in town, as well as seeing some nice examples sell for an average of $10,000, and I also like how sharply styled the cars are. Especially interested in the 1967 Chrysler Newport, as there is one in town long awaiting restoration it seems, and I had just read in Hemmings Classic Car about 3 such cars found in a warehouse and that further hightened my curiousity on the reliability and performance of the 1965-68 full-size Mopars. I have a couple photos of locally sighted cars; I know they're 18 feet long, but like big cars for some reason. When my parents look at cars like that, they see a Limo with 2 doors. I see art on wheels. What do you guys think about the big Mopars of the '60s?

(If you have or sighted any '65-'68 full-size Mopars, feel free to share any photos you may have.)

Never doubt any of the MoPars of the '60s! Especially in those two departments....... They were tough to beat in both reliability and performance!

When I was in junior high and high school, we had a 1968 Fury III convertible. White with the black/white interior and white top. And then right before i turned 16, we sold it. So I never got to drive it. Or inherit it. Lolz.

I'd love to find a kit of this one, but I don't think one exists. Maybe Johan?

At the same time, we had a 1977 Fury sedan and a 1978 Fury Sport Suburban wagon.

IIRC, the Imperial was still a full perimetre frame until 1966 ; its alpha body style was D-Body.

There were still high-perf versions of the 1965-1968 C-bodies , be they 383-HP or 426-S , they could be had with 4-speeds ( no 440 / 4-speeds though ).

Since I'm a fan of the more utilitarian models, I'm keen on the police and taxi models (perhaps the rarest is a survivor NYC-spec taxi ; those with an "N" as the second character of the VIN).

I've seen a '68 Fury coupe in town; super nice car. I know that Johan had a '67 or '68 Plymouth Fury 4-door police car kit; may be able to make a convertible out of one of those

My favorite Chrysler...around '77 or '78 I picked up '67 New Yorker 2dr. Silver w/ black vinyl top...came outta California (I'm in michigan), super clean car. Swapped in the engine from my '70 superbee, 440 6bbl and beefed up the Torqueflite. Made up some headers w/dual exhaust thru hemi mufflers. Engine wuz much modified, don't recall every thing that wuz done to it but it ran very strong.

Except fer the slightly lumpy idle it wuz a perfect Sleeper.

This car got me on a first name basis with a buncha local cops...nuthin serious, just having a little fun street racin donchano.

Oh, don't sweat the Superbee, it wuz pretty rusty.

Also quite fond of the 1965 Dodge Polara/Monaco/880, as there is this guy who lives a couple doors down from my grandma's, and he has (had?) a beautiful 1965 Dodge, painted light olive green, with a very light brown, almost white vinyl top; has to be one of my favourite cars in town, but I haven't seen it there since 2020, so I don't know if he sold it privately or if he's doin' somethin' to it in the backyard, but I really think it's still there. Also at a show some old dude let me sit in the front seat of his orange 1965 Dodge Polara and take photos of the dash and stuff, so that was neat. I didn't take the photo you see below, but that's the car.

1962 Chrysler Enforcer . Built at the request (demand, really) of the CHP , as Chrysler - via misinformation - downsized its fullsize fleet for 1962 (whoops !)... except for the premium lines (Imperial and Chrysler).
CHP required a 122" wheelbase , so Chrysler conjured up the Enforcer to meet this demand.

The gripping rebel biker film Wild Angels ! (1966) features one of these bad boys , out by the Salton Sea on the Mecca (northwest side) tier of that then-elegant resort.

I owned a 1967 Chrysler 300 2-door hard top in high school.

Bright red with a black vinyl top and interior. And a 440 auto.

Just spotted these “large” gems at a car show on Sunday.

In 1988 I inherited my Grandparents 1965 New Yorker. A big car, very smooth ride, huge trunk.

That is the end of anything positive about it. Had a 383/Auto. Gutless wonder. It could cruise all day at 85mph. Which was a good thing, since it would take all day to get there. I was almost rear ended several times , by Semi Trucks when merging onto freeways. I'm not kidding, it would take 2 or 3 miles before it hit 65. I rebuilt the carb, couple of times, played with the timing, blew out the fuel lines, changed the fuel filter. Did everything I knew and took it to a couple trusted mechanics the Horseless Carriage Club.  They were older guys then, and nothing they did could make it run any better. It had no 'miss',did not surge, just accelerated at a painfully slow pace. I sold it after a couple of years. It was just too frustrating to drive. In Town, it had no problems. It was only on the freeway that is had troubles, but I did a lot of freeway driving back then, between my apartment and my parents house.

Yes, Johan did produce ‘67 and ‘68 Plymouth Furys in both hardtop and convertible.

I have one of the ‘67 hardtops.

These kits were produced only once and were never re-issued making them expensive and difficult to find.

Actually very nice kits with the standard fantastic Johan body and very nice interiors, but the engines and chassis were also of usual Johan quality......not so great.

Luckily, there are a number of kits that would make great donors for more detailed chassis and engines.

This ‘67 has been on my “short list” for a while.

Please tell me you're not going to build the drag version! Knowing you though, it will be some kind of factory performance option.......

I love C-body Mopars.

I have been the caretaker of this wonderful 66 Newport since 2001. I put a couple hundred miles on her last weekend.

I am actively looking for a 66 Chrysler wagon.

Such a beautiful car; really liking those rims. Four-doors can be sporty, too. Thanks for sharing, and good luck finding the station wagon version.

This beauty just went up for sale a few hours ago, a nicely optioned '65 Sport Fury with Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Windows, rebuilt 727 Transmission, and WORKING A/C! $22,000. No mention of engine size or photos under the hood.

No, it will more than likely be built as a  full detail factory stock vehicle.

I almost bought one of those in high school.

It was maroon with a tan interior and a three on the tree.

I basically passed on it because of that.
