1959scudetto Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Pierre, you succesfully tackled the 2 biggest flaws of this kit which otherwise would totally disturb the whole picture: the wheels and the headlights. Bingo - I think I have to stock up on a few styrene profiles....

I'm jealous of your checklist. It is readable. Sometimes I go back to mine and can't remember the item I wrote down because I can't read it. Finally figure it out by process of elimination. It's like oh that's what I wrote down and then I fix the garbled letters. My penmanship has always been horrendous. You know your penmanship coulda got you a free pass to medical school. They looked at mine and just laughed me off the property...😂

Bingo - I think I have to stock up on a few styrene profiles.... Completely agree. These two items are the must do for this kit. The rest is just me not being capable to keep it simple.

But I would not have had the work ethic to become a doctor or pass any of the courses to get to medical school.
Bainford Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 Excellent work on this one, Pierre. I just had a good read through this entire build. Impressive work all around.
Straightliner59 Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 I saw this, when you began, and just found some time to surf around the boards, here...Wow, Pierre! Great work with this! I was impressed with what you did with the Airfix body. Once you moved on to the Otaki body--even more so. I love the fender vents, and the brake ducting, your fabrication with the roll cage. Excellent work with the headlights. She's a thing of beauty, my friend!
IanH Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 (edited) This is a very interesting build to follow, Pierre your skills working the analog mods are seriously mind boggling! Edited November 24, 2024 by IanH

I adore the E9 BMW and love group 5 racers, so I had to come up with a way to build this car. 17 hours ago, Straightliner59 said: I saw this, when you began, and just found some time to surf around the boards, here...Wow, Pierre! I am honored that you took the time to cover my journey. When I finally found the Otaki (which was the one I really wanted) I was sure it was a 1/20 scale kit in a 1/24 box. Nope, it was the Airfix that was grossly undersized. Live and learn... 7 hours ago, IanH said: This is a very interesting build to follow, Paul your skills working the analog mods are seriously mind boggling! Thank you sir. Support much appreciated. 1
IanH Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Lol, my apologies Pierre, I don't know how, but for some reason I got your name mixed up in my post, I corrected it now 😳. But same compliment applies, really am looking forward to seeing the updates on this one.
Pierre Rivard Posted November 25, 2024 Author Posted November 25, 2024 The final stretch on this enjoyable but challenging project 2

Pierre, you did it again - you created a superb model of Dieter Quester's Le Mans racer with finesse and your usual attention to detail - simply excellent ! For me, the best looking touring sportscar ever !
MarkJ Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Wow, Pierre. Another piece of fine automobile art that you can hold in your hand and really enjoy and share with others who wish they could create such a wonderful masterpiece. Hope you share a link to the under-glass forum so we can get the full effect of the experience.
kensar Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Looks awesome. Can't wait to see it in the completed section. 👍

This kit looks more toy than replica if built OOB but the body has very good lines and lent itself well to the intended modifications. 17 hours ago, 1959scudetto said: Pierre, you did it again - you created a superb model of Dieter Quester's Le Mans racer with finesse and your usual attention to detail - simply excellent ! This was a holy grail build for me and I waited years to acquire the needed materials and courage to take it on. 15 hours ago, MarkJ said: Wow, Pierre. JollySipper Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 It was really cool to watch this come together......... The changes you made make for a very realistic finished build! 1
AmericanMuscleFan Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Very impressive work Pierre, your dedication and your obsession with detail are well represented in your WIP thread, you obviously have a lot of talent and dexterity. There are many good tips that you have described and demonstrated that can be used by scratch building enthusiasts (including me), I am taking note of them! A great WIP thread from start to finish, I will follow your next projects! 👌

There are limitations from working mainly with styrene, putty and paint brushes but I try to maximise the results and very much enjoy the challenge.
