Model Builders Mafia Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Here is something a bit different, and not something I have seen built before. This is a 1/24 Deck Crane a buddy of mine printed. The Print was pretty cool but was missing a lot of detail. So what I thought was going be a quick easy build turned into a bit more, but I enjoyed the build and love the results. While trying to research this piece of equipment as there is no brand attached to it. I stumbled on a great resource. government auctions, there are a ton of different sites and each has a huge amount of old equipment listed even some brand new. The best part is the huge amount of photos attached to each auction, each of the listings seems to have a min of 25 photos but most seem to have many more. So while this crane is generic I stole lots of ideas including the way the hydraulic hoses route to the winch. I also resized and printed out the safety labels in the cab. I ended up scratch-building the outriggers and the hydro piston. The front and rear were reworked to add the Diamond plate. Once the build was done I decided it needed a bit more life so I added the worker taking his lunch break checking out Insta on his phone.. Some Pizza Coke and a sprite. Dont tell his boss but there is an empty bottle of jack somewhere under the crane 4
Biggu Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 No cell phones on the job ! I hope the safety committee doesn’t drive by. No hard hat and no vest. Tsk tsk!?????? What a cool build !!! It really looks the part. It would make a really cool load for a low bed. Nice job! I really like how it came out ! Jeff

Warren D Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 Looks good. I recall a guy from VT did a self-propelled crane a few years back, all from scratch. 1
