No work today so I had some bench time this morning,,cobbled up some hood hinges.(I'll add more detail, reinforcement angles later) and started modifying the KW radiator into something close to the Mack along with the CAC ,built up some more putty on the hollow air bags,,,should be enough now to contour to shape.

More technical engineering and ‘bar raising’ …. This is a very cool project. Did ‘glass’ come with the cab conversion?  I really like this. And am following along in the back row …..

It always amazes me how much, even at the early stage of a build, a coat of primer brings the work to ‘life’.  Good start on the rad and looking forward to seeing how you do your under lift.  Great looking engine in the foreground, too!

From what I was told the MP8 engine kit was derived from an Italeri Volvo kit,,,not sure which one but it originally was a Volvo D13 engine ...I could probably use more like the charge air cooler, radiator and fan but most if not all Italeri kits are 1/24th ,,,, like this one which I've never seen anywhere PROD00596.jpg

Yes, Volvo owns Mack since 2001 and the MP8 is essentially a Volvo D13 with some small differences.
And yes, all Italeri truck kits are 1:24th scale.

Thanks Brian,,the cab/hood is going to need a bit of sanding and filler ,,,printing lines in some areas ,,the engine will be a tight fit the frame will have to be notched to clear the filter/turbo/alt ,ST Supply has it as 1/25th but seems a bit over that ...once I get the radiator situated I'll get the engine in and fan drive,,might have to alter the belt/pulley arrangement ,not sure yet and also the intake from the CAC

Yeah I knew that Volvo owns Mack,,I wasn't sure where the MP8 came from..an existing kit or what ,ST Supply sent it to me in a bag with his label on it

I hear you about the scale difference.  I’m certain the engine I used from Auslowe isn’t perfectly scaled either - sits a bit high, and wide, in my opinion.

Back in the late 1980s when Renault was in bed with them I was at a Mack dealership in St. Louis I asked the salesman if they were going to replace the Bulldog with a Poodle he didn’t care too much for my comment 😂

Had to work a few hours today ..now back at the bench...had to revise the rad assy some in order to have room for the CAC and still have hood clearance ,,sanding and contouring the hollow air bags....added pulley and fan drive to the MP8 which also required modifying some plumbing that was casted into the front of the engine,,no biggy ..I think that engine might have been set up for a Volvo cabover,,,just a guess,,,,intake air inlet will also have to change for hood clearance which I figured would have to be done anyway ...pics later or tomorrow

I can see that. 😁
Volvo got Mack when they bought Renault in 2001.

Yep I knew that I once was a die hard Mack fan for years because I drove so many from Mack Superliners to The Mack RS700L and a B61 and also B67. My last one was a brand new Mack CHN613 it had a MP7 with a MDrive 12 speed automatic transmission I drove it for 6 years till I semi retired.

Scott that is a great idea. A friend of mine does the same thing for reference and How to Videos. I just seen this YouTube video last night thanks for sharing.

Charge Air Cooler/radiator cobbled up ,used some CTM rad mesh,K&S aluminum tube and styrene for the CAC,used some styrene and a Parts by Parks aluminum pulley for the fan drive,,just had to nip a bit off each blade of the Kenworth fan .... front engine mount support bar in place .Sanding and filling of hollow air bags continues-almost there . Hood-rad-engine-cab-interior tub-wrecker body test fit -I think it will fly,,may have to hog out some of the thick interior tub to clear the back of the engine and gain just a bit of room behind the cab ,it still has to come closer to the hood anyway ,it's gonna be close ,,,worse case I stretch the frame a bit .Changed the outlet orientation of the turbo and altered the inlet of the intake manifold .Shot the Allison aluminum and attached to the engine,,,still needs the pto and hyd pump ,,,should have room

Making good progress, Scott - great job on the rad and CAC setup. (might be able to get a package on its way to you by end of December!)
