This is my first full build in since getting back into the hobby. Trying out the craft paint "thing" after watching a some videos and reading here on the forum. So far, it seems to be working out. The chassis is just mocked up, and I will be detailing and weathering it. This is the first thing I've ever used an airbrush on, I'm just kinda winging everything with a bit of self  education and common sense.

More progress,  I got the bulk of the interior painted, and started detailing things out. This is my first full build since I was a kid,  figured I should brush up on my skills before building something I really like.

Looks like you are off to good start. Love that folks are rejoining the hobby. I did too last year!

Thanks, after about 30 years keeping my expectations vs skills in check seems to be the biggest challenge. Plus I like to take the hard road and try new things right off the bat,  working with molotow tonight has been a learning curve.

I'm digging it! I like the interior two tone treatment. What do you have planned for the exterior color?

This is actually one of my favorite Monogram kits from the 80s. Compared to today's standards, it feels simplified and maybe a little crude, but I still think it looks great when finished.

I agree the kit's a little crude, the window cranks are almost non-existent (such a pain to try and paint them). I'm gonna try to get as close to saddle bronze as possible with the exterior, using craft paints. I enjoy a challenge and so far this has been a fun experiment.

Chassis looks great! I just dug mine out that I started when I got back into the hobby. I’ve been researching how to block that darned red plastic from showing through.? I want to do an off-white interior, so I am going to try Tamiya silver paint under white primer, then paint.?

I shot my with cheap touch and tone primer that i decanted . It seems to do the job, mine is all craft paints and a thinner I mixed up. Even that was an experiment.

Looking great so far. The '64 is my favorite year GTO, except for all the others.

Not really a bad kit for its age, but IIRC the engine has some issues. Keep on keepin' on.  :D

I just looked your build up, very impressive. I like what you did for the stance, I may just steal that. I'm really trying to push my skills with this kit, the level I see a ton of you guys build to is unreal. Glad I picked this hobby back up.

Nice work with the Molotow pens! I generally have to use a brush when I apply it.

The interior detail is really good.

David G.

I did as well. Pen tip stopped working,  had to improvise. Thanks for the compliment.

Did a bit more on the dash details, only two of the four gauges have anything that resembles detail, I may just end up with decals. Not sure. I also lowered the front end and in the process tried to make look like actual spindles,  I think it looks ok. Decided to weather the exhaust a bit, rust things up. I think I'm going to make this look driven, as realistic is I can get it. Thinking about trying to make linkage for the 4 speed.

That’s a perfect base. Are you going to remove the window frames and make it a hardtop

That's the plan, I'm looking into exactly what's involved. I don't want this to look hacked up.

It’s easy to do. The plastic is very thin along the cut lines.

Thank you once again. I've been paying attention to your build, kinda gives me a heads up on potential issues I may find. Your gto is looking really good,  the detail on the engine looks perfect.
