Jim B Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 (edited) I saw recently on another modeling forum that Meng Models is issuing (or already has issued) a 1/24 scale McLaren MP4/4 1988: McLaren MP4/4 1988, Meng Model CS-007 (2024) (scalemates.com) I find this both intriguing & odd that Meng is issuing a F1 car in 1/24 scale instead of the "standard" 1/20 F1 (Ma.K.) scale that almost all other F1 kits & the new Salvinos Indycar kit are in. Maybe the math was easier when scaling down their existing 1/12 McLaren MP4/4 1988 kit? No idea, but I do find in interesting. Might even get one, just because it's 1/24. I hope they follow with other 1/24 F1 cars. Edited September 26, 2024 by Jim B
niteowl7710 Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 Tamiya's 1/20 kit is still the standard for that kit in that scale, which is apparently something Meng decided not to tangle with, but in the process put the price of the 1/24 kit over and above what Tamiya's "standard" scale kits costs.
Dave Van Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 PASS........ I have a large number of 1/20th builds in F1.....so it does not fit. Want to sell vintage F1 kits??? Why not other makes in 1/20?? like this in plastic 2
iamsuperdan Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 The fact that's 1/24 would make me choose this over the other kits out there. 1/24 matches all of my other kits. Including my Revell F1 cars, and the ones I've 3d printed.

Underbody looks pretty good, too. 1531141-28-instructions.pdf (scalemates.com)

iamsuperdan Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 Wow. Okay, I will definitely be adding this one to the stash.
Bill Eh? Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 I realize that the Tamiya McLaren MP-4 series are considerably older than this Meng offering. The detail portrayed in the instruction drawings is more than impressive. In spite of it not being the accepted F-1 scale (1/20 LOL), I will more than likely buy this kit. Since I do not have much in the way of AK paints, I'll do my best to colour match the AK paints listed. 1
Jim B Posted September 30, 2024 Author Posted September 30, 2024 (edited) I was looking through Scalemates, and it seems that Revell, NuNu, & Arii made some McLaren MP4 Series cars in 1/24 (MP4-12, MP4-20, & MP4-25). Are those kits any good? Edited October 2, 2024 by Jim B
