Dave Van
I was talking to Atlantis on another issue and asked why the Pinto is not in the 24/25 catalog and they said 'No news right now'. May be a FORD license issue....my GUESS only.
Zen
Could call it something else I guess, doesn't exactly look like a Pinto.
Dave Van
Trade Dress covers it I think. Best not to go up against FORD and it's hundreds of lawyers......FORD needs some cash right now!!
Mark
Even if a move like that were successful, a company like Atlantis wouldn't do it, as that could create issues later on with licensing other items.
Mr mopar
Last time I heard anything from Atlantis there was a glass issue with this kit ! Edited September 27 by Mr mopar
tim boyd
I recall hearing that Atlantis still has hundreds of tooling sets to go through and catalog, etc. May just be a function of workload and priorities. As far as licensing goes, at least when I was still there, Ford had a very supportive licensing policy and department when it came to scale replicas....TB

iBorg
There appears to be some buzz that Ford might bring back the Pinto nameplate. Some of the info online isn't believable while this video does look possible. This looks like an updated late model Escort. Maybe Ford would rather bring back the Pinto name to go along with their other horse names (Bronco, Maverick and Mustang) for a new model release. If so, maybe they don't want a Poison Pinto on the shelves. Here's a link to a video that might be real.

As is customary with a lot of AI art, the rendering of text is pretty rough, at best. Check the badging, and look at the Ford logo on the steering wheel. I'm also seeing PIINTO, and PINTTO in that video, on what look like Fiestas, so prolly fake. Me personally, I'd like for this to be real, so let's hope Ford makes it happen!
niteowl7710
If there was a car coming in 2025 you'd be well aware of it because it would already be in production by now.

I knew John from his days at AMT-Ertl and we got along fine, but I've heard (second-hand) stories that while he was at GM licensing he could be difficult (from the kiltmaker's POV) on licensing issues....TB i
Dave Van
I had brushes with him at DNL Hobbies......not sure if there was something held over from his AMT days or what but 'Strained' is what I'd say. thx

Motor City
I think the Pinto name is poison after the gas tank issues and lawsuits. I liken it to Chevy bringing back a Corvair or Vega or Chevette. My sister worked in the parts dept. at a Chevy dealer and the employees called the Chevette the shove-it. 1

I knew a guy in high school that had a chevette he’d park it in the back of the parking lot and ask the hot chicks if they wanted a ride in his vette . Of course they thought corvette boy were they surprised 4

I went out whit him in his Vette one day. The passenger door seal had failed so water came in. Add spilled seed food for his birds and he had plants growing in the passenger floor carpet. Nice car!!!
TooOld
Maybe if we all yell really loud Atlantis will mold this kit in white instead of some hideous red plastic !

oldcarfan
I'd love to see the Pinto name used again for a Ford product. It's been so long ago that if you mention explosive gas tanks to anyone 40 or below, they'll probably just give you a blank stare. As for this kit, I hope they get it out. I love to see these old kits reissued. I still have three built ups somewhere in a gallon zip lock. I bought them at a model show for $5 a few years ago as the dealers were packing up to go home. I need to dig them out and do something with them. There's probably enough to do at least one complete model.
Chris V
It was recently brought to my attention that Atlantis has re-tooled the old Monogram Goodyear Rally Sport tires WITH proper lettering for their Tom Daniel kits. Even though they're far from true to scale, I've always liked the look of those tires. It's great to see that Atlantis has invested in re-tooling them from scratch, as the original tire molds were badly worn and visibly damaged by the mid-nineties. oldcarfan
I finally went out to the shop and dug through the kits. I have one red issue still with a damaged box and two green ones missing some parts. I may have to do something with those when I finally get finished with my Cannonball entry.
