This car is the 1991 SKOAL BANDIT Oldsmobile. The driver is the very famous Harry Gant.
Harry Gant earned the nickname “Mr. September” after winning four consecutive races in Darlington, Richmond, Dover, and Martinsville in September 1991.

The base kit is Monogram “#75 DINNER BELL OLDS” and the decals are Powerslide “#33 Skoal Harry Gant Olds.

This time, I basically assembled the kit as is.
The only modifications were replacing the exhaust pipe with a round tube, angling the rear spoiler, and adding an overflow pipe.

The body color was sprayed with Tamiya TS-26 Pure White and then TS-43 Racing Green.

Great looking build. I always liked "Handsome Harry" Gant, that's another nickname for Mr. September. To me, he was sort of like Ned Jarrett, more of a gentleman racer. He could get with it when needed, but we rarely heard of him intentionally crashing other drivers. Your color choices and painting are spot on. If you don't mind my asking, what do you use for your overflow? I've looked at various things, but nothing seems in scale

The success with this car was that for that string of races, they used ONE car.

They just swapped parts around from track to track. This was not far from the days where drivers struggled with the mandated radial tires.

Thank you all for the replies.
I love the unique design of the Oldsmobile Cutlass of this era, and the paint scheme of the “SKOAL BANDIT” driven by Harry Gant is my favorite among them, so I decided to create this one.

I am referring to the pipe coming out of the upper left corner of the rear panel as the “overflow pipe”, but it may be more accurately named the “vent hose”.
If that is what you are asking, I have always used “evergreen” 2mm diameter rod, drilled with a pin vise and formed into a pipe shape.

I was asking what you used for the vent/pipe. Everything that I've thought about using looked to big or to little. I'll get some 2mm rod and drill it out.

Thank you for your help!

Just beautiful!  And from back when NASCAR was NASCAR.  I remember watching those races that September.  I believe Harry was in an accident at Martinsville, and Buddy Baker said "well, he isn't winning four in a row!"  But of course, he did!  Thanks for posting this - brings back good memories.

Met Mr. Gant late that year waiting to board an airline flight and got to play "nascar groupie" while waiting for our flight to board. What an absolute gentleman and fine ambassador for the sport. And oh yeah your model looks fantastic. Excellent craftsmanship!

Thanks, Bainford, Rattlecan Dan, Chris in Berwyn, Jim Dodson.

There are various rough work in the details, but the painting and decals were done fairly well.
In addition, a hinge has been added to the engine hood so that the engine hood can be opened and closed just like the real car.
I tried to attach the “DETAIL MASTER” photo etch hood hinge on the back side of the hood, but I could not fix it firmly.

Thanks for the very interesting reply.
Were you the person who was actually working on this car at the time?

Yes, I assembled the engines, built the oil pan and did all the welding on the heads and intake to make the combination fit together.

Wow, how wonderful to receive a reply from the person who worked on the actual engine of this car.
I feel very, very happy.
