henry57 Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Growing up in the 80's I remember these trucks being everywhere. Loved watching all the big rigs as a kid. In nearly 40 years of building models I've never built a semi kit. I ran across several listed on marketplace and figured why not, I haven't built anything in a while. Seems like a pretty decent kit, but you certainly have to study the instructions and pay close attention to what things are. I can certainly see why there's not many finished models of this kit posted here. I'm no where near finished but planning another build as soon as finish this one, they're addicting. 1
Biggu Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 (edited) Boy, Henry , you sure got that right, these old AMT kits can be a real challenge at times, and sometimes the instructions leave a lot to be desired , but they can, with a little love and patience build up into a real nice replica. But those challenges to my mind are actually ‘modelling’, and not just assembling. Your General is really looking good, keep going as it is gonna look really good when completed. And yes they are addicting, I’m sure you will soon be into another and looking to modify from box stock and be branching out with your new addiction! Looking forward to more updates on your General. Jeff Edited October 4, 2024 by Biggu
Gary Chastain Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 I have built a couple of these and the tooling for this kit is really not in good shape but Jeff is correct, with a little patience they build up nicely. Well done on your progress. Will be following. 1
Jürgen M. Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 I can confirm what Gary and Jeff said! I only built it once but compared to other amt kits it's a real toughy! I did build the Coca Cola Western Star though and it wasn't too good a quality either! Maybe they did use the old tools once more for the Coke Editions? Anyway, your General is looking good and I'm sure you'll make a real beauty out of it! 1
henry57 Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 Does anyone know what actual color the engine is supposed to be? Online search shows about every color of green there is 1
BK9300 Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 (edited) Maybe this - although, like you found, seems to be a considerable variation of colours used for both new and rebuilt engines Edited October 6, 2024 by BK9300 3

henry57 Posted October 7, 2024 Author Posted October 7, 2024 Started to polish the cab and hood a bit today, not real happy with the Nason clear, but it polishes easy and has a nice shine. 2
