Zippi Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 (edited) I got this 1957 Ford Sedan Gasser kit from a good friend of mine Roger S. I saw this pic of the GALPIN GASSER III and really liked what I saw. I've already ordered the decals and I picked up a can of Tamiya TS-92 Metallic Orange at the local hobby shop. The pic of the GALPIN GASSER III seems to have Bigger slicks than what comes in the kit so I found these wheels & tires in the parts box. I pulled this blown engine out of the 1929 Model A Roadster and I pretty much have it finished. First order of business was to delete the chrome trim from the rear quarter panels. Thanks Maurice. Yeah, I normally paint the transmissions a flat aluminum but thought I'd leave this one the same color as the block.

Zippi Posted October 10, 2024 Author Posted October 10, 2024 (edited) This morning I started cutting the frame and body pan to get those Big ole meats under the rear. I think I have the stance I'm going for. Edited October 10, 2024 by Zippi 2 1

Zippi Posted October 10, 2024 Author Posted October 10, 2024 I got the chassis just about where I want it so it was time for a trial fit with the engine and radiator in place. It is snug as a bug but fits fine. I did have to remove the lower motor mount from the chassis. I'll have to relocate it. 2

Zippi Posted October 11, 2024 Author Posted October 11, 2024 I think I have the rear axle figured out. I narrowed the rear end and then cut some 5/32" X .014 Aluminum tubing to go over each axle half. The tubing fits inside the wheel backing plate nice and tight. I got it all painted and glued together and fitted down inside the chassis. I'll have to shave the chassis rails down a little so they are not rubbing the tires. Now with this in place I can start building the leaf springs, shocks, radius rods around the rear end. 2
Zippi Posted October 13, 2024 Author Posted October 13, 2024 (edited) I'm making a little headway. I have the chassis and floor pan painted and matted together. A little bit of the front end has been assembled and I'm ready to start building the rear suspension around the axle housing. Everything on the rear will have to be moved inwards due to the width of the rear tires. All the parts have been modified, I just need to glue everything in place. The body has been prepped and ready for the silver leaf base coat. Edited October 13, 2024 by Zippi 2
ksnow Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 That's looking really nice so far. Love the mods to the rear end to get those meats to fit.

Zippi Posted October 14, 2024 Author Posted October 14, 2024 Finally I got the rear end all set and glued in place. I think the ride height is just about where I wanted it. While putting the shocks on one of the front shocks slipped out of the tweezers and is lost in cyber space. I got a replacement from the junk yard and it's already in paint.
ksnow Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 Nice work on that rear suspension. Looks really neat and tidy. And narrow.

David G. Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 What a cool build Bob! Nice work knocking the chassis into place. David G.

Zippi Posted October 15, 2024 Author Posted October 15, 2024 This morning my goal was to get the hole cut in the hood and putty up the hole where the emblem went. I also wanted to get the base coat of Silver Leaf on the body and last but not least get a rolling chassis.
Bullybeef Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Nice start on this one Bob, that sbc from the revell roadster builds up nice, too bad revell hasn’t seen fit yet to offer a nice sbf with some similar options yet.
