Jordan White Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 Thanks to Makoto Ukai on Facebook, some pics from the All Japan hobby show. Stock version of the Toyota Hilux regular cab Stock 4x4 version of the older Hilux kit Stock 4x4 version of the Datsun 720 5 1
niteowl7710 Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 This sorta thing has been needed since these kits were tooled in 2003 (single cab HiLux) and 2001/1980 for the older HiLux (the body is from an old motorized toy, and the rest of the lowrider model kit was tooled in '01). The Nissan 720 has the same lineage - old body with 2001 low rider kit added. Funny 20yrs later they finally got around to it, but I'll take it without too many arguements. 1
tim boyd Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 We still need a US-spec kit of the classic 1983 Toyota SR5 4x4 with the three-tone side graphics as found in every high school parking lot in So-Cal/Nor-Cal back then. Some kits have gotten close (a curbside AMT kit comes to mind) but I don't believe I've ever seen the exact spec cited above. Or did it come out and I just missed it? TB 2
Hondamatic Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 Would love a 2wd front end on the 90s toyota Surprised nobody ever made the later 80s toyota either 1
Radretireddad Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 I love the Texas plates and RH drive on the white one.? 1

martinfan5 Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 Very happy to see all these getting done, figures, I kit bashed several Hilux kits a few years ago to make a stock long bed US version . I am going assume the LHD parts will be included since its being done as the USDM version and they just used the RHD for the show display. Happy to see them finally doing stock-ish version of the two low riders kits. 3
iamsuperdan Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 I've built the 4 door crewcab version. That white reg cab should do very well.

Yes please! Also, I'm pretty stoked to see the 720. I owned one back in the late 90s as a work truck and loved it. Any idea if and/or when these will be coming our way? 1

The single cab pickup has always come with USDM parts, apparently those are seen as more desirable in Japan for some reason. Also the single cab has NEVER come with the LHD parts included, as it's a separate tooling created in 2001 vs. 1991 for the quad cab HiLux & HiLux Surf.
Robberbaron Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 Shouldn't the wheels on the orange and black trucks be 6-lugs? I thought all these 70s and 80s Japanese trucks were 6-lug, like the white truck. (No real knowledge of these trucks, just seem to remember that from back in the day.)
Mark Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 Not sure about the 4 X 4 versions, but Toyota 2WD pickups used the 5-on 4-1/2 lug pattern for a long time. That's the same as many Ford, Mopar, and AMC products. Only one GM car used it that I'm aware of ('61-'63 Pontiac Tempest).

The model shown here (black truck with orange/red decals) has 5 lugs and is not correct.

I meant LHD parts , but for some reason I typed USDM, dunno why I did that. 1

I recall the blue stripped version to be particularly popular... TB Edited October 12, 2024 by tim boyd 2
oldcarfan Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Here's hoping these kits sell well enough to inspire them to do a certain other Toyota truck! 4

I've never understood why that kit doesn't exist, especially given Aoshima's decades long obsession with the movie. 4

Japanese culture seems to be big in this country, maybe model car building will filter in too. My son loves anime and all things Japan when it comes to food. He's built some Gundam but now he's in college and has no room in his dorm, so that ended that.
martinfan5 Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 The BTTF version would be an instant buy for me, hoping Aoshima's love affair with the movies will motivate them to do it.
