GMP440 Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 How many wins did Richard Petty get in his Superbird? Is there a good, credible source that shows this? Thanks. George
THarrison351 Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 No credible source that really defines which cars were used Racing Reference just says Plymouth, but Petty ran the Superbird on the faster tracks and the Road Runner on the rest of the tracks. The best I can tell is three races, Rockingham, Atlanta, and Dover. There are pictures. The rest of his wins are all short tracks, road courses, or dirt and from everything I've ever read, Petty didn't run a Superbird on these.

As has been said already, the Bird was used only on the long tracks. The regular Roadrunner was used on the short tracks, as well as the handful of dirt tracks NASCAR still ran on as late as 1970.
Shark Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 I've seen pictures of the Superbird at Riverside, don't know if he won that. Gurney ran the winged car there also.
