RACINE ISHRAQUR RAZA Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 This is a dealership promo model made by MPC from when the real cars were sitting on the showroom floor. The paint is the original Aqua Blue Poly by MPC. I did all the detailing including the interior after taking the entire car apart. Presented here is a 1974 Chevrolet Caprice Classic powered by a big block 454 that cranked out 235 horsepower combined with 360 lb-ft of torque. This car scaled at 4376 lbs! After doing a lot of work I think it's looking decent. For the longest time I thought those big Chevy promo bodies were molded in factory color, but while working on them I found out these are actually painted, and the paint quality of MPC promo models is excellent compared to many Johan promo models from that decade. This is another promo interior that I detailed & painted using paint jars, toothpick, & tweezer. The carpeting is felt from Walmart and there are a few bits and pieces that were scratch built. You can see in the last couple of pictures what the car looked like before all the work went into it. 6
Falcon Ranchero Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 Gee I gotta get my hands on some promotional models. They don't come up often, or at all, around here.
ncbuckeye67 Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 That's beautiful! I love all your added detail work.
XYHARRY Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 You must have hit the mother load with these promo models, your detail on these really bring them to life. Well done Racine. Cheers, David. ??
RACINE ISHRAQUR RAZA Posted October 17, 2024 Author Posted October 17, 2024 Thank you everyone for the compliment! Much appreciated! @Falcon RancheroPromo models are great for doing a detailed up replica. One not so great thing about a lot of them is many that are highly sought after today were made for one year only when the real car was in production. Like the MPC made '71, '72, '73, '74, and '75 Impala/Caprice promos and even the kits are not the easiest things to find, and all we are left with today is the MPC '76 Caprice that has been reissued multiple times. 1
exnyman Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 Wow! That looks fantastic! The detailing and improvements just really make it a standout. You’ve inspired me to do this to mine. My Dad brought one of these home for me when he special ordered a brand new 74 Impala in this same color. In December of 74 I started driving and learned how to drive on that 74 Impala. I remember being really nervous at first because the car was only 6 months old. My Dad had a few custom touches done to his Impala. That triangular rear side window was done as an opera window with a half vinyl top. He also had the dealer install an electric sliding sunroof. It was his last brand new car so he went all out. I always liked the aqua blue, and liked the promo in that color.
RACINE ISHRAQUR RAZA Posted October 17, 2024 Author Posted October 17, 2024 @exnymanThank you for the compliment and also for sharing those great memories of your dad's new car. That would be an interesting project and I wish you best of luck in building that car's replica.
Chuckyg1 Posted October 18, 2024 Posted October 18, 2024 Looks really nice. Great detailing. I'm digging that interior.
