Ralphie Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 Hi, What color do you guys paint the inside of a Funny car body body? Not the tin work, the body.
Mark Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 (edited) Prior to the mid-late Eighties, the bodies were fiberglass. I'd go with simulating raw fiberglass: dull medium gray (which could vary in tone here and there, as they were laid up by hand). Some overspray of the exterior color(s) wouldn't be out of place either, I doubt anyone did any painting or masking on the inside of the body. If they did, they probably just blew some flat black over everything but the interior "tin". Edited October 21, 2024 by Mark D--- spell check 1
Ralphie Posted October 21, 2024 Author Posted October 21, 2024 Ok thanks, looks like some of the ones you see on TV are black inside.
Ulf Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 I say matte black which means I would choose a dark gray(almost black). The few Funny Cars I have been close to have been like that, one in the late 70's was black in the coupe but chalk white from the windshield on. I actually think it gives the driver better visibility or at least the feeling of it. 1
gtx6970 Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 I usually paint them black or same color as the exterior 1
Thedragsterdude Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 (edited) I don’t know what time you want for funny cars (60’s 70’s 80’s 90’s etc.) but here on this late 70’s early 80’s funny car interior it is black Edited October 26, 2024 by Thedragsterdude Typo 1
Force Posted October 28, 2024 Posted October 28, 2024 (edited) I believe they are painted with a fire resistant paint on the inside and most are black or dark grey. Although modern funny car bodies are carbon fiber and not fiberglass. Edited October 28, 2024 by Force
oldcarfan Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 I used Duplicolor's Hot Rod Primer as it is a dark gray, almost black. It seemed to work well.
