DoctorLarry Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 I have a great love for the 73-77 GM Collonade cars. I have done several Pontiacs and have done resin castings of both Pontiacs and Buicks. I also like the two Buick Indy 500 Pace Cars and so did resin castings of both. Like many of you, I always seem to have multiple projects working and finishing them takes me a long time. I started this build awhile ago and my ambitions got the better of me. I see unreal detail and craftsmanship on the board but I had never attempted a super detailed build. This was a somewhat ambitious attempt at one. My own resin body and interior, 1966 GTO chassis shortened, 66 GTO engine with a Buick front cover and scratch made intake, Fireball Quadrajet and resin BOP Turbo 400. Resin wheels and tires. Fred Cady (I think) decals with Ray's Kits under hood detail decals. I tried to do a full interior which included textured headliner (HO scale textured plastic), dome light and shoulder harnesses. Photo etch seat belt buckles with blue ribbon. Detailed interior with wood grain and my own resin seats and console and steering wheel. Undercarriage with brake hoses, fuel line and emergency brake cables. Under hood looks like a typical mid 70's emission V-8: a mess. I added transmission lines, power steering hoses, A/C lines and scratch built pulleys and belts. Detailed battery and cables. Heater and radiator hoses. The washer tank and radiator overflow were scratch built to mimic the real thing. I added a charcoal canister and lines, throttle return spring, power brake hose, electrical relays and the vacuum ball for heater controls. I used thread and fine wire to represent wiring and hoses, color coded to the real thing. I went through 3 decal sets as they just crumbled up. I finally put three coats of clear lacquer on them and that made them stay together. Paint is correct for inside and outside as I had it mixed at a paint store. A lot of work and lots of flubs in it but it was satisfying to finally get it done. 13

espo Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 Great looking finishes on this historical Pace Car model. The engine detailing looks very realistic.
karbuildr Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 Beautiful pace car, exceptional attention to detail, very well done engine compartment.
TransAmMike Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 Great work Larry, the under-hood detail is impressive ?
Chinacar Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 Really nice replica Larry! I love the detail under the hood and the interior.
bbowser Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 Great project! I wish the Colonnade cars were better represented in scale. Kudos for your castings.
STU111 Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 As an Aussie, I don’t know a lot about these Buicks, but l do know an awesome build with great attention to detail and you certainly have that in your Indy pace car. Top stuff. ??
Rattlecan Dan Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 Very unique build. Super job on the detailing. Great build.
DoctorLarry Posted October 31, 2024 Author Posted October 31, 2024 Thanks, everyone for the kind comments. I don't know if I will try another engine compartment like that one. Maybe back to the 60's-an alternator and a heater!
XYHARRY Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 Amazing detail there Larry, great subject too. Really well done. Cheers, David. ??
CrazyCrank Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 I do love your highly detailed engine bay ?
TooOld Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Well done Larry , an excellent build of a rarely seen pace car !
RACINE ISHRAQUR RAZA Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 This Buick Pace Car model is so amazingly well crafted and great work on the engine bay! Malaise era automobiles are my favorite and seeing one of these makes me very happy. This is one of my wish list model cars.
Wagonmaster110 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Looks like 1:1 scale I had years ago. It looks great. I love the 73-77 GM era cars. My son has a 1:1 77 Lemans he is working on. Would you happen to sell the resin kit? I would love one. Tim
