#25 1984 Porsche 911 Turbo

This is a Fujimi curbside kit modified with a Black Box resin engine with a custom made turbo setup for this build to give that extra power to beat the clock!

The floor pan was modifyed to look more like the oem with parts from a spare Tamiya GT2 kit that I had, the GT2 also donated the transmission to give better MPG and better RPM's  on that long cross country drive.

"18 3d printed wheels, tires with wide ruber to get that power down. The brakes where also upgraded for modern porsche stuff.

Interior is basic but with Tamiya buckets, arm rests(which the curbside lacs) from a Tamiya BMW. I also flocked the floor and back seat to resemble the 1:1 better.

Paint is Tamiya LP Red with TS13 clear.

Plates are swedish custom ones with my friends birth year, this was his 40year birthday gift and i got it to the finnishline the day before!

#17 The Night Train Ford Explorer- This is my entry based on the Revell 1997 Ford Expedition. As for the name, I try to have a theme for my projects, and in this case, the concept for me was of two young talented motorheads wanting to do something other than hang out with their buddies. Celebrating a Lottery win, they decided to enter the Cannonball. They wanted something that wouldn't catch the attention of law enforcement. They bought a solid but well-used 99 Expedition off MarketPlace and painted it gray for low vis night running. For go-power, they bought a wrecked Coyote Mustang from CoPart. In the back they added two fuel cells, a 44 gallon central fuel cell and a 15 gallon secondary. Add to that the original 26 gallon stock tank, and they have a total of 85 gallons of hi-test gas. To keep an eye on law interference, they set up a full suite of surveillance equipment that they could run off an iPad.

The base kit is a Snaptite, in other words, a curbside. It is and original issue which I pulled it out of a very old storage box. Just to emphasize, it had a Hobby Lobby sticker for $8.99 and a clearance sticker for $2.99. Haven't seen prices like that in a while. Needing a little more detail, I opened up the hood and made plans to do some work. After buying a Revell 1997 F-150 Extended Cab for extra parts, I found the cab and frame from a Lindberg F-150 and raided the parts box for a front suspension and engine bay. The front bumper is a favorite part for me. I sectioned it horizontally, added an 1/8th inch and cut openings for the driving lights. For the interior, I used the prisoner partition from a Ford Expedition police kit along with some pieces from a Lindberg Crown Vic police car. The seats, steering wheel, and wheels and tires are from a Welly Porsche GT3RS.

The engine is from Texas 3D and is a Voodoo Coyote twin turbo which should be able to keep even this flying brick of a truck at a steady above 120 mph pace. The paint is Rustoleum Gloss Dark Gray which turns out to be a close match to a special order Porsche color called Schwarzgrau.

Not part of the entry, but because no Cannonball is complete without a pre-runner, I also did a Mustang in the to pave the way.

#18 Ferrari 512BB

This kit is 1 of 6 in a series of Cannonball Run kits so I thought it would be fun to enter it in the community build this year.

The kit came with opening doors and bonnet, working pop up headlights, poseable steering and even seatbelts.

I upgraded it by eliminating the vent Windows in favor of 1 piece door glass, the brakes are from a 360 Modena and the wheels are from an F430.

#5 1970-ish Nissan Fairlady 240ZG with RB26 engine swap.

The ZG is basically a 240Z with a longer nose for aerodynamics. As standard it had the twin-carb L24 engine, and the bodywork tweaks gained it a few MPH. Seemed like a good basis for the RB engine transplant, something which is done at 1:1.

IMG_4783.JPG.0bee05bc6fa26da077751499333f0ee4.JPG

I used Tamiya's very nicely detailed kit, painted with a period Datsun/Nissan ochre colour. Wheels are aftermarket Gotti copies, otherwise the body is standard ZG complete wirh arch flares.

IMG_4798.JPG.518924350eee61b1523343cc1c527918.JPG

No clues externally as to what's under the bonnet....

IMG_4786.JPG.61e485852d5dff90b588e55b4bdb6316.JPG

The RB26 was taken from a Tamiya Skyline GT-R kit, it fitted really nicely. A big intercooler was slotted-in up front.

Suspension is lowered all round. The RB engine needed to be converted from 4wd to RWD and the sump was reversed. Most of the exhaust system came from the recently released 240Z Street Custom kit, with front pipes from the Skyline. I added slotted disc brakes at the front end and rear discs from a Honda NSX.

Inside I added aftermarket seats plus a basic roll cage taken from an Italeri/Esci Ford Escort Mk2. This kit also donated a couple of fire extinguishers.

This remains my favourite view of the Z.

Thanks for looking.

1972 Mazda RX3

This project was certainly a journey! I began in February and just finished on December 1st with approximately 200+ hours invested into the build.

Overview

Engine and Drivetrain

The model itself was originally curbside. I modeled and printed a 13B NA rotary with 5-speed transmission; both from the FD RX7. The 13B also has fuel injected ITBs and tubular headers that lead into a twin-pipe exhaust; both with a white thermal coating.

An aluminum driveshaft connects to the RX3 solid rear axle.

Cooling is by way of a large capacity aluminum radiator with SPAL electric fan. A stock oil cooler sits just below.

Brakes and Suspension

The brakes were upgraded to Wilwood 4-piston Dynapro calipers front and rear over Wilwood two-piece rotors. The rears also received a set of Wilwood electronic parking brake calipers. Additionally, the master cylinder and adjustable brake bias are both from Wilwood.

The dampers are Koni Yellows, front and rear.

Interior

Since this is a resto-mod, the interior is fully modified. The dash has been modernized while still retaining the spirit and intent of the original design. The center stereo has been removed and the dash sits indecently off the center console. A tablet visually connects the two while providing infotainment. The rear of the console has a placeholder for a phone for the rear occupants.

Seats are Recaro LX up front with a matching design in rear.

The door panels have had a similar modernization as the dash. They've been simplified in design, but still retaining the original character. The windows are now electric with the controls in the center console. Finally, Door straps replace the elbow rest.

Since the theme color of the car was light grey with black and an accent color of Acid Green, the interior reflected this as well with black and dark grey. The door straps and seat belts received the green accent while the dash center wears the exterior color of Insignia White.

Exterior

The body itself has remained mostly stock. The largest changes include de-badging front and rear, with only a Mazda logo on the rear. The plastic grille was opened and replaced with a hexagonal mesh. The front bumper has been smoothed to remove the license plate holders and the mirrors are bullet-type.

Wheels are 16x7 Watanabe RS wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza tires.

Specifications

Model: Fujimi Mazda RX3 (Savanna)

Modeled and Printed Parts: Engine and all related bits, transmission and related bits, u-joints, headers, exhaust, rear dampers, brakes, brake and clutch master cylinders, wheels and tires, entire interior (except steering wheel and column), mirrors, and windshield wipers

Modifications: Converted from right to left-hand drive, de-curbised, opened hood, opened grille with mesh

Forgot to upload my car to the finished list.

Exterior:

Opened and hinged the trunk, cowl hood. Painted the car at work and can't remember the name of the paint color it's been so long lol. Other than that it's stock.

Interior:

Upgraded racing seats for long distance comfort. Upgraded the radio to a touch screen. Rear seat delete. Clean and simple.

Drivetrain:

Stroker sbf, wired and detailed. Trickflow intake, aftermarket valve covers(iceman collections). Custom rear mount(sts) turbo system. Custom exhaust.

Chassis: went with 19" pony wheels, large brembo disk brakes all 4 corners.  Painted the suspension parts to look like some of the performance  suspension kits available at mustang specialty sites.

Extras: large fuel cell in opened trunk. Relocated the battery to the trunk.

Overall a fun build that I got to try new things,(building the turbo/ exhaust system, opening the trunk, ect). Honestly my best paint job,(real automotive paint and clear coat) lol. Can't wait to see the theme for next year, thanks again everyone!
