What bi-monthly schedule?

A common misconception is that because MCM says 6 issues a year, most assume a bi-monthly schedule. For as long as I can remember MCM has never been on a regular schedule.

12 months divided by 6 months equals 2 months.         That's the arithmetic !

Or am I complicating things ?          LOL

Nope, your math is perfect and that is why most people get upset over the inconsistency of the magazine. I once subscribed for two years (12 issues) and it took 3 1/2 years for all my magazines to arrive.

I'm not trying to start anything by any means. But my sister bought me a subscription for my birthday at the end of September (2024) should I have seen something by now?

No. The last issue was August. There hasn’t been an issue published since.

Last edition was in August 2024 ?  That's over 5 months ago.

Subscribers would appear to have the patience and karma of Trappist Monks.I

I do hope the magazine gets itself on track, especially as there is another new auto modelling magazine now on stream.

I thought ModelCarsMagazine had gotten itself back on track, but that doesn't seem to be happening.  I am holding off on renewing my script with them.  Maybe I start a script with Auto Modeler Magazine.  They may be new, but at least they are on track!

Exactly, a subscription is 6 issues. The confusion comes in with the "1 Year" subscription price. You pay your money, you will get your 6 issues but it might take more than a year to get them.

Personally I'm fine with that, as ultimately I am receiving the 6 issues I paid for. Heck, if it takes 2 years to get my 6 issues then I'm saving money. 😄

I don't know what the total circulation of the magazine is, but I'm guessing that it is more than 100. Considering that it is the same 4 or 5 people griping about the magazine being late, it seems "most" of the subscribers understand that intermitant delivery is just a quirk of the magazine. I look at it like owning a British sports car, not knowing if it will start is just part of the experience.

It was on track for a while but certainly  isn’t any more. The problem for them they may well lose subscribers to the new mag if it’s any good. The new glacial publication schedule could result in a small circulation getting smaller.  It’s too bad as it’s a very good msg.

MCM besides Auto Modeler the new kid on the block Stateside also has a British quarterly competitor, Model Car, Truck and Motorcycle Magazine that has been running for a couple of years now. I also understand that there is also a Stateside Truck Model magazine that has been going for a while too.

All relatively new challengers to MCM since the demise of Scale Auto and Model Car Builder.

Hopefully MCM will get itself back on track soon or it might start to lose market share if it has not done so already.

(jumping on my soapbox)

I can understand people wanting  to receive what they paid for or what they were gifted, but I want to rehash things that have already been said in this forum several times:

I have met Gregg and seen him in action, if you think that being unable to produce the magazine to a schedule that we're used to from the old days doesn't frustrate the heck out of him (and the rest of the staff) then I invite you to produce a magazine of your own so that you may know some of what Gregg and his staff go through... "walk a mile in their shoes".

Anyone on this forum that complains should remember that the use of this forum is still free because Gregg pays for it, so how about a little more support and patience rather than whining...or maybe ask how you can help.

Also consider that the magazine most likely barely makes enough money to support publishing it.

A while ago when the concept of lifetime subscriptions was floated, I paid without hesitation, mostly to support Gregg and the magazine, receiving issues for the rest of my life or just the rest of the life of the magazine was just a bonus for me.

Please allow some grace for Gregg and the staff, send healing vibes to Gregg so that eventually he won't need any more surgeries.

(done with the soapbox for a while)

I was under the impression that the forum was Dave Ambrose's baby as he appears to be the main man on here.

This is very much Gregg's forum. He formulated the rules and policies we use to run it. @Harry P., aka Harry Pristovnik, ran this forum for a long time, and  I just kept the server fed and watered. When Harry's illness became debilitating, I stepped in to run the social side along with the technical end.

Gregg and I are closely aligned on the rules for this forum, but in the end, last word is Gregg's, not mine.

Regarding issue 226

226 is in final production and should be going to the printer very soon. We apologize for the delay, but Gregg's back problems have significantly worsened.

Dave.   Thanks for the heads up about ownership of the forum.

Sorry to hear that Greg's back injuries from a few years back are worsening now and still causing him serious health issues. Hope that he eventually recovers from all this pain and discomfort he has to bear.

Harry Pristovnik's passing was a very sad loss as I can remember our personal emails shortly before he died. He sent me a copy of the book he self published 'The Evolution of the Automobile in Scale'.  His print layout skills were just brilliant. I have a copy of Cranky's book 'Rats Rods n Rust' where the complete book layout was all Harry's work.

The reality of the situation is that Gregg has been dealing with back issues as long as the magazine has been around. While I had hoped years ago he would allow someone to step in during his illness to keep the magazine on schedule, the saga continues. The number of posts here over the years questioning when the next issue was forthcoming are numerous and typically go the way this one is.

Scale Auto was quite a good magazine until it's demise.

Model Cars Magazine seemed to be a bit more stable when being produced by Golden Bell publishers. As it is a commercial magazine, not a club information print run maybe it now needs the strength of an established publisher to take it on.      Who knows?

Model Car Builder, again a good magazine but closed when the owner editor decided to retire and shut up shop.

The new Auto Modeler Magazine is finding its feet right now, so it will be interesting to see how it turns out long term.

I don't care when the next issue comes, I'm so happy that we still get a magazine! Until Gregg says it's done, I'm still loving the mag! I've been a subscriber since it was Plastic Fanatic! My prayers go out to Gregg, back surgery is horrible!
