So I Snapped the key off in a Landrover I just bought.Turns out there’s only one key that exists for my truck. The guy I bought it from never made a copy.Anyway, the key snapped off the “non” working alarm button pod.I was able to get it out of the ignition, and turned off the car..I went to Lowes, the guy couldn’t do it.Now I haven’t been back to any stores or locksmiths, which I plan to do this week, while I’m off.Just a quick thought, say no body can make the key,for whatever reason.I guess I gotta spend and arm and a leg at the dealer, give them the vin # and they could match it up to make a couple of keys?Or is that a long shot.I cannot believe this happened.?Any advice,I  mean like I said,I’m going to stop by a local locksmith near my house.????Thanks

Had that happen to my wife's 96 Dodge pick-up.

I just bit the bullet  and bought a new ignition switch . It came with 2 keys, but the door locks are still set for the old key ... so, yea, I can't lock my doors.

A lot of this is going to depend on whether the key is "chipped".  If it's chipped you will have to either go to the dealer or a locksmith that can program keys. If it's not chipped just go out and buy a new ignition switch which should come with two keys. However you didn't mention if that same key opens the doors. If that key opens the doors or trunk you should probably go to the dealer so you can get matching keys.

Try Able Locks on Sunrise Hwy over in my area. They are on the eastbound service road just west of 231.

The ER lost my key and fob during my 2016 heart attack event. Able to the rescue. Ran me $145 at the time.

Thanks guys for all the advice.Yea there’s no problem getting a new ignition switch. But yes unfortunately it’s the same key for the locks,so I wouldn’t be able to lock the doors. No big deal though,I hardly ever lock my doors anyway. As long as I can drive the thing, that’s what’s important.I’ll try a couple of locksmiths, and Bob thanks for the name of Able locks on Sunrise.

It will cost you 100 to 200 bucks and they can get you the right key. Not worth the hastle of 2 different keys like the old days.  Also they may be able to get you a key that will just open the doors cheaper as it will not have a chip. In case you lock the keys inside.
