yellowsportwagon Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 (edited) I tried building this as a kid and failed miserably. I found this at a swap meet for 20 bucks so I decided to try it again. Built out of the box with exception of the decals. I think about 90% of the parts required some finessing to fit. But I’m mildly happy with the results. Rich Chernosky Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Tim...I did the same you did. It was great fun to re-visit a kit you failed miserably at. Mine was horrible. I clear-coated the white body and it yellowed. Not to mention mine was assembled badly. Second time was the charm. Aaaaahh much better. Must say yours turned out great. What a difference, years of experience and new materials make. Congratulations on a job well done.

bbowser Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 I love this car, great job. I too butchered one of these as a kid and have another to build. Hope it looks half as nice.
Pierre Rivard Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 I think it looks really good Tim. So much fun (for me at least) taking a new run at these old kits.
1959scudetto Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Mildly happy ? I think it looks excellent - are the decals from IndyCals? (I sold mine after struggling with the J-Car and the Ford Mkl IV = the most ill-fitting kit I have ever experienced)
Modelbuilder Mark Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 That looks great to me! nice one.
Roger U Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 All your efforts paid off, it’s a beautiful model. The paint and decals really look good.
bondo bill Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 very cool build, wish it could be reissued
drodg Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 Gorgeous build, congratulations. This month in the magazine Collectible Automobile there is a fairly extensive article about Jim Hall and his Chaparrals. I just read the article on a flight this past week. Again great build. 1
Justin Porter Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 Seriously impressive to see one of these IMC Chaparrals actually finished and to a very clean standard. 1
Phildaupho Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 Looks fantastic from where I am sitting. I was at the Monterey Historics the year Jim Hall and Chaparral were the featured marque so saw them all up close and at speed.
Dave B Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 Great looking build Tim. Had this year's ago but it certainly wasn't as nice as yours. Dave B

Bainford Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 Lovely Chaparral! Very nice work on this build. Some of those IMC kits are a real chore, but this one looks fantastic.
Cliff W Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 You hit this one out of the park! Terrific build of an iconic car!
