Got some work done on mine today. Got the interior mocked up and ready for paint. Body is ready for primer once I get a day above freezing ( spray cans and outside painting). Chassis is done and ready for primer and paint. Moving right along!

I got an other stupid ide.. a Diesel engine would have better MPG than the Hemi.. But who had diesels in 1975? Mercedes did.. whtat cool mercedes was availible.. Well the 300SEL is a nice car and can look cool as hell.. And AMG was not official Mercedes back then so its plausible that they threw a 5cyl diesel engine with turbo and an intercooler would also be an option. They where available and some trucks seems to have hade them even thogh Mercedes launced their first Turbo Intercooler in 1978, but testing must have started years before am I right. Especialy with Porsche launching their Turbo Intercooler car for the street in 1977. And porsche seems to have had Turbo and intercooler on the 911 RSR, correct me if i am wrong, in 1974.

Vehicle, Engine, Car, Motor vehicle, Auto part, Automotive engine part, Automotive super charger part,

So.. a Mercedes 300SL 3.0L Diesel Turbo intercooler concept by AMG.. whats your thoughts on that  ;) Talk about an epic long distance car for the CBR in 1975! :D

OK got something to show. I mated the back part of the Cobra to the interior tub(just tacked in place  needs to be mounted permanently). I also added a slight flare to the rear fenders) they will be blended in to be less notable.

Next up will be to get the chassis mocked up to see what's next.

Love the idea. Cool concept. Make it happen.

I made a start today. This morning I got some paint on the entry. I used the last of a can of Model Master Go Mango as it resembles a real color offered by Volkswagen back in the day. We should have temperatures in the 50s the rest of the week so I'll try to do a bit more before the weather cools again this weekend.

I am so looking forward to seeing this built. Is there a separate build thread?

I prefer a forward opening hood and really hate hitting my head on the safety latch on a Mopar. Still have to build an inner truck taillight panel and a big fuel tank , then I'll start painting. 20250115_011852.jpg.fac43733a2bf27881299ce9bdca4d848.jpg20250115_011912.jpg.4907a7a5780ed55c701e0c3de40167ee.jpg20250115_011901.jpg.e379ca2ace2846734aec299a6774fc33.jpg20250115_011857.jpg.b8c04e0f4cc8874d99652028f2605b57.jpg

Working on a headliner, some truck detail ,filled in the open area in front of the core support,  and the chassis is all fitted. I know it's not a 73 chassis but I can live with it.20250116_030619.thumb.jpg.49aa459518275216959bbf97e723d137.jpg20250116_030540.thumb.jpg.00424dfdf226dae4ae69eb9d34f0262f.jpg20250116_030550.thumb.jpg.84942a1f9b2260f036a033c2d353fd08.jpg20250116_030528.thumb.jpg.13d550ab99c86f7418ebc4006128c44a.jpg

I’ve been on the hunt for a shade of orange that grabs me for the Camaro.  Couldn’t find anything that was doing it for me.  Then I got thinking about the box art car.  The date on the box is 1978.  So chances are good it could have been shot with good old Testors enamel.  So I dug through my old paint, found some 1127 orange I’ve had since probably the early 80’s, and loaded it up in the airbrush for a test shot.  Exactly what I wanted!  And believe it or not the paint was still good, with no chunks in the bottom.👍 It sprayed beautifully with some Mr Leveling Thinner, about 50/50.

I’ll be using white primer, so the shade on the right is what we’re going with.  It’s very close to Hugger Orange, but a little less red.

Small progress is still progress, so I did some parts prep getting off flash and I've been doing some research into the 70s tech and looking at how Porsche and others were experimenting with turbocharging and intercooling.

Looks like the Polar Vortex is paying a visit so it'll be interesting to see if my new shop heater is up to the task.

Just to let you guys know of I dissappear it's not my choice. Keep having to send emails and reset my password.  Keeps saying I'm banned, but then says to reset my password.  Can a moderator please let me know what's going on?

Thought I had the body ready for primer, but then I my brain decided to say “Hey what about this?”

So now I’ve roughed in the headlights and swapped hood scoops. I think I’m liking it!

Wow!

There are some real amazing build going on. I'm not even wiring my dizzy, I just want to finish the thing. Lol

Here is the finished chassis. Now for the interior and foil work. I will do that much. Yes, I do know that Mopar engine compartments were body color...but if your on time restraints to get it done in time for the Cannonball...well, that's my story anyways.

Nothing I can see in the Admin site looks amiss. You are definitely not banned!

I got the van up on its wheels, kind of a proof of concept and making sure it wasn't secretly a tripod. Next is to get the bottom part of the Porsche engine installed. The rear chassis mount is on the access door the engine compartment so this one will probably stay curbside but I will add as much detail as I can to the bottom side of the engine.
