1930fordpickup Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Always nice to see an E type done right. I find it strange they molded this kit in red, did they think it was a Ferrari? Even those are not all red.

absmiami Posted December 28, 2024 Author Posted December 28, 2024 Thanks all - having finished my brief visit in Vir - i’ll post the progress - left some tools and paint there for my next visit - i’ll finish the Jag in Fl - after i make another trip to Rev’s and do some more research - example - 10 must have a D spec sump - but i just dont have a picture to verify -
absmiami Posted December 28, 2024 Author Posted December 28, 2024 The independent rear suspension is rendered with a top and bottom - not good - the brake discs should be one peice - Revell ? - and they are too small anyway …. I prefer the Heller rear susp …
absmiami Posted December 28, 2024 Author Posted December 28, 2024 BTW - the back plate for the box is rendered and pictured here - but not called out in the instruction book …
absmiami Posted December 28, 2024 Author Posted December 28, 2024 It does all go together - i think Revell prioritized getting the correct stance once everything is together - the half axles look too slender but upon revu of chass photos - I think they are correct - cutting everything apart to replace the discs and brakes will risk a correct final assembly - but i’m going to try -
absmiami Posted December 28, 2024 Author Posted December 28, 2024 Exhaust system is nicely rendered …
absmiami Posted December 28, 2024 Author Posted December 28, 2024 Initial coat of rattle can Tamiya primer - this looks so much better in gray - sprayed outside on sister in law’s back deck - in 43 degrees - Spray can directions suggest not to use below 50 degrees - but i got a nice finish despite use in 43 degrees …
Pierre Rivard Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Tamiya primer comes off the can so good doesn't it. No longer available in Canada. The good old days... What's the plan for the rear end... with the joint where there will be no bumpers to hide it?

WAIT! you went to a relative's home in Virginia to hide in the basement for the holidays?
kensar Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Both Pierre and I lowered the rear end about 1mm on our models. If you are going to do surgery on the rear suspension, you might consider doing that also. The way the rear hubs are mounted, it's easy. I would also recommend fitting the hood to the body before proceeding much further. My hood required quite a bit of bending to get it to fit right. At 43 degrees, the humidity is pretty low. Another factor in getting a good primer coating.
absmiami Posted December 28, 2024 Author Posted December 28, 2024 They let me out of the basement - Ill drive a case of primer to toronto - how much will you pay ? ? Still dont know about this engine …. It does have a solid mount to the chassis ….

Dave B Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Looking good Andrew. I'm glad you don't use auto acrylics, you'd end up with a pink E type!! Dave B
MarkJ Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 So, you couldn't give up modeling for a few days of sitting around with relatives trying to think about what to talk about. "You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din". Looking forward to more of the XKE. But will you have to buy another piece of luggage to get the stuff home?

absmiami Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 This is a very recent restoration - and I think - a good one - Revell did get the under bonnet structure correct - 1
absmiami Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 But spending some time under this bonnet leads me to think that the kit eng bay isnt quite as good as it could be …
