Well - i was faced w a decision - hang out with mom-in-law, sister-in-law, and wife watching the Hallmark channel and old family videos - or sneak downstairs and build a model - actually - i was sent downstairs - banished - the basement has everything i needed - except a fridge - mite fix that on my next trip North …

That's good, that's really good, I drink to that!!! 🍺  By the way, the build has a good start, that's the point of this thread, right? 🤔

The independent rear suspension is rendered  with a top and bottom  - not good - the brake discs should be one peice - Revell ?  -  and they are too small anyway ….  I prefer the Heller rear susp …

It does all go together - i think Revell prioritized getting the correct stance once everything is together - the half axles look too slender but upon revu of chass photos - I think they are correct - cutting everything apart to replace the discs and brakes will risk a correct final assembly - but i’m going to try -

Initial coat of rattle can Tamiya primer - this looks so much better in gray - sprayed outside on sister in law’s back deck - in 43 degrees - Spray can directions suggest not to use below 50 degrees - but i got a nice finish despite use in 43 degrees …

Tamiya primer comes off the can so good doesn't it. No longer available in Canada. The good old days...

What's the plan for the rear end... with the joint where there will be no bumpers to hide it?

Said relation has an unfinished basement - one end of the basement sits unused and uncluttered - i really really miss basements - having grown up in Pa - where everyone had ‘em  - then choosing to live in Florida - where sadly - basements have been outlawed - so i made myself a holiday workshop - and dont worry - i found some additional light -

I love the Jag, and that looks like a good spot to build a model. WAIT! you went to a relative's home in Virginia to hide in the basement for the holidays?

Both Pierre and I lowered the rear end about 1mm on our models.  If you are going to do surgery on the rear suspension, you might consider doing that also.  The way the rear hubs are mounted, it's easy.

I would also recommend fitting the hood to the body before proceeding much further.  My hood required quite a bit of bending to get it to fit right.

At 43 degrees, the humidity is pretty low.  Another factor in getting a good primer coating.

They let me out of the basement - Ill drive a case of primer to toronto - how much will you pay ? ?   Still dont know about this engine …. It does have a solid mount to the chassis  ….

10 had a seem along the bumper line - probably riveted - should be able to glue top and bottom after marrying body to chassis …  there will be larger fish to fry … would love to open a door - but i dont see the A pillars or the rest of the body surviving - note that A4 chose to open the doors on a Heller Jag XKE - rather than the Revell - think there’s a reason …

So, you couldn't give up modeling for a few days of sitting around with relatives trying to think about what to talk about. "You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din".  Looking forward to more of the XKE. But will you have to buy another piece of luggage to get the stuff home?

I am in Montreal, Francis in Quebec, so your go to places. Hurry across the border before tariffs kick in. This grand meeting would be good for US-Canada relationships... show the big guys how it's done. Oops... hope the censors are off today...

This is a very recent restoration - and I think - a good one - Revell did get the under bonnet structure correct -
