TODAY I GOT A FAKE EMAIL SUPPOSEDLY FROM NETFLIX SAYING MY PAYMENT DETAILS NEEDED TO BE UPDATED.

KINDA ODD , 'CAUSE I DON'T HAVE NETFLIX.

ANYWAY, THE ORIGINATING ADDRESS WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT CORRECT, SO I FORWARDED THE EMAIL TO "phishing@netflix.com".

A LITTLE RESEARCH SHOWS THIS PARTICULAR INCARNATION IS A FAIRLY RECENT VERSION OF ONE THAT'S BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS.

AS ALWAYS, LOOK CAREFULLY AT THE ORIGINATING ADDRESS OF ANY REQUEST FOR ACCOUNT INFO UPDATES, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ACTUALLY HAVE AN ACCOUNT WITH THE SUPPOSED SERVICE PROVIDER.

DO NOT CLICK ON LINKS, OR PROVIDE ANY PERSONAL OR FINANCIAL INFO, AND IF YOU THINK THE EMAIL MIGHT BE LEGIT, SIMPLY CONTACT THE SERVICE PROVIDER DIRECTLY.

IN SPITE OF THE WARNINGS, PEOPLE ARE STILL LOSING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ANNUALLY TO THESE SCAMS, SO PAY ATTENTION.

I got the same one and I DO have Netflix. As TJ recommends, I looked at the email on the computer and it wasn't from Netflix. Even if it WAS from Netflix, I wouldn't have clicked the link in the email, I would have logged in to Netflix and checked the payment info.

Meh... I make a habit of rarely checking my emails. It is a PTSD thing from my working days.

I'd rather wait until my NF stops working, then get them on the phone.

Just got another one today. Now my Netflix account has been suspended. One thing I will say, the composition and grammar in these is head and shoulders above any other phishing email I have received.

I think it's important to specifically state your account is NOT actually suspended, but the phishing email is lying to try to panic you into logging on to their fake site.

Some of the viewing audience may not get it otherwise, unfortunately.

True. As I was typing that, Netflix was being viewed in the family room. The "account suspended" line was added into the very same email that was sent a few days ago.

I must add that the email address that this email is from is the Romanian department of driving permits.

I get these phony Netflix scam emails saying that my payment has been declined. Well at least I have a Netflix account. But I still am getting Netflix. Anyway I also get them from Sirius XM which I  don't have an account with. These scams are easy to spot, just look at their email addresses. Here's that other one I just mentions.
