After a long delay. The company is taking pre orders for it on it's website now. Here's it's box art.

is this the one with opening doors?

Yes this is the Circa 1969 everything opens Revell kit. Their box art is a homage to the original.

No record this time ???

I'll likely get one anyhow.

If the original from c.1968 was considered fiddly (to be nice), I can only imagine that the ad sequitur releases have become more , well , run hard & put away wet.

Still going to buy one.

I still have the ‘70’s release I started but never finished. It’s a crude kit but still buildable and IIRC the only other ‘57 Nomad ever tooled other than the old 1/24 scale Monogram kit from the 80’s. Which one is better is certainly debatable. A modern spinoff from Revell’s current Tri-five series is much needed.

Interesting point on the Revell box art. The real car in the photo did not have chrome reverse wheels. They cut and paste (the old way the wheels with X-acto knives) a picture of Jim Keeler's car whhels onto the pic. The photo was in Black and White, and if you look closely you can see they have no color at all...just grey tone. I think Jim owned a Rambler with chrome wheels on it.

was the car on the box art featured in the back of rod and custom during the mid 90s? i'm sure it had a name for the car too

I built one as a kid... as a junker. I hope they made some improvements to the fit issues.

Me too. I tried to build it but the plastic was too brittle. The body broke into several pieces. Also had the blue molded 80s issue. Also built as a junker. Hopefully my skills are better now.

Yup.

An older issue I have has some real problems with the rear of the roof, etc., but I'll give the repop a chance.

Lotsa cool parts in it, anyway.  :D

There was an article on this car (or at least the recreation of it) in an issue of The Rodder's Journal from back in the late 2010's. IIRC, it was known as the Hollingsworth Nomad, after its' original builder. The real car was repainted at some point, and was known to last reside in British Columbia (also from an issue of TRJ).

An earlier thread on this car indicated that Atlantis planned to make improvements to the tooling.

The illustration alludes to the inclusion of spoke rims - perhaps that's one of the improvements ? Those would be tough to replicate in-scale unless they're two-piece (?)

Well, if nothing else, the engine - one of Revell's strong points - is worth the purchase alone.

From Atlantis' site : their description of the kit's contents :

"Made form the original vinatge  [sic] tooling. Features opening doors hood and trunk. Molded in gray and chrome and clear. Newly tooled 1 piece rubber tires. Skill level 3. Not an easy build by any means, It features 169 parts, 1 piece body, newly flame decals by Starfighter. New artwork by Brad Liesure."

No mention of improvements other than the tyres (leaps and bounds over those horrible two-piece junks) and the decals (the original lacked the flames, no ?) .
