Hello Everybody!

What model car builder hasn't at least considered, if not dreamed of building a scale transport trailer and loading it with model cars that they've built? I know I have!

That's why when I saw this kit on the shelf at my local hobby shop I snatched it up straight away!  Revell doesn't issue these often and when they do, the kits don't stay on the shelf for very long. I bought this model back in 2017. One of the reasons it's taken me so long to get to building it is the lack of space to display it upon completion. The trailer alone is about 23 1/2 inches (59.6cm) and with the loading ramps it is roughly 29 1/2 inches (75cm)!

That's without a cab attached!

When I first lined this trailer up to take the initial photos, my first thought was "I'm gong to need a bigger camera!". I couldn't afford that so I built a larger photo box out of a used trifold presentation board. Anyway, this is my first several build sessions edited into one image. Given the odd proportions of the trailer, it's the best way I could think of to present the photos.

That's all for now.

As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to share any comments you may have.

I always wanted this kit, but never got around to it. I'll be following this one.

My dad bought me this kit when it was first issued Waaaaay back, and it was Prestige Auto Movers , and it included the tractor, a Pete 359 all decked out, the trailer and a 3rd gen Camaro and a 3rd gen Firebird …. I still have remnants of the trailer somewhere and the Pete is on my shelf.  A very cool kit and can be a bit of a challenge to keep everything aligned but makes a really great model. I will be watching with interest for sure.

The auto transport trailer originally came in 1983 and the Prestige Auto Movers combo kit came 1985 and was originally issued 1984 as the Prestige Auto Transport combo kit, same basic kit in a different box and no car kits included.
Originally it seems like Revell planned to do the car transporter trailer paired up with a Kenworth K100 Aerodyne as a combo kit, it even had the same kit No as the 1984 Prestige Auto Transport kit with the Pete 359, the picture in the catalog with the K100 it had two BMW's as a load, but it appearently never materialized.
I saw the the Prestige Auto Movers kit on display at a wholesaler showroom wich only sold to stores back in the day, and wanted to get one myself but I couldn't find one at any store anywhere around me...so I bought the kits separate.

Thank you Ron, it's good having you along for the adventure.

I've seen this on the shelf off and on over the years. This is the first time I've had the resources to pick one up

That would have been quite a combo kit!

Thanks for following along Jeff, I appreciate that. I'll keep your comment in mind regarding the alignment, but so far- no problems!

That's quite a bit of history on this kit Håkan, thank you for sharing it.

I have the Pete 359 as a companion. I just started building it yesterday and will be posting photos soon.

Thanks again to you all for your comments, I do enjoy reading and responding to them.

Dave looking forward to seeing you build your transporter. I’ve built one out of the box and used one to build a 7 car transporter. It’s a nice kit to build and display other models.

Thank you Dan.

It's been a fun build so far, something outside of my comfort zone.

If you have any photos of your builds, please feel free to share them here. I'd love to see them.

Same here! Added to my stash circa the same year, and if everything aligns I want to pair it with RoG's Mercedes-Benz 1628s daycab tractor to keep lenght in check and give the pkg an Euro vibe. Got the 1628s from a-zon on sale for $35 CDN about at the same time. I was also thinking of a silver-blue combo for the rig - like minds!

Looks like a nice kit! I've been thinking about a purchase but to tell the truth, I have no motivation what so ever to build any cars for it! 🙈

Nevertheless, I think you're doing a great job on this and maybe your progress might convince me to build it! ☺️

David, given the thoroughness you bring to all your other builds, this project will turn out great!  I’ve never seen the kit up close - are the upper, individual sections height adjustable?

That sounds like a great plan Daniel.

Thank you Jürgen.

That's a rather funny problem to have.  For most builders the reverse is true. They have many cars build but little motivation to build a truck and trailer.

Thank you Brian. The sides are fixed but the upper ramps are removable and will pivot some on their mounting points. I'm just getting to that part of the build now and I'll have some photos to post soon.

Thanks again to everybody for your comments and support.

Hello Everybody!

Most of the kits I've seen online in photos and videos come with chromed wheels; this one did not. So working ahead a little I decided to clean them up and spray them with Rustoleum Bright Metal Chrome paint.

This was the result.

I'm guessing that even though there was no chrome coating on the wheels, some of them still received a partial enamel undercoat. Anyway, into the Purple Pond they go!

ATT_02.jpg.70e23078d892b39cd39547a875fc80db.jpg

I have all the lower ramps painted and attached. Next comes a test fit of the superstructure sides. Each side is cast as a single piece and needs a little cleanup but they look they'll square up well enough.

Wow! @Mopar - D

I had no idea there were that many transport trailers out there! It's difficult for me to imagine that any one has more in their collection than you do. Each rig is an excellent build as are the cars they carry.

Very cool! thanks for posting these Dan.

Thanks David, I’m getting ready to start on a 8 car transporter for my 71 Mopar’s I’ve just recently finished.

You've done some remarkable work with those Dan, I'm looking forward to seeing the next one.

Hello Everybody!

It's been a little while since I posted an update for this one, so here it is!

The rear bumper is done!

ATT_04.jpg.bfd2857f9a276e39ab45a8ae4f74a7df.jpg

I decided to do some weathering on the lower deck ramps to simulate the paint being worn away by driving cars on it. And I also painted the side frames with some Tamiya TS-19 Metallic Blue to match the Peterbilt 359 road tractor I'm building as a companion.

It's not much but it's all I have for now.

As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to share your thoughts and opinions.
