Tommy124 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Hello everyone, I took on an old kit from AMT. It is the Chevy Nova 76 in the "Street Machine" version. Since the kit only contains parts for a drag version, but I wanted to build a largely stock version, I had to use some parts from the '72 Chevy Nova SS (AMT also) kit. This affected the wheels and tires as well as the back seat. I replaced the very poorly fitting glass part from the kit with inserts I made myself from transparent Evergreen Sheet. Since the kit and its chassis were only designed for the drag version, I had to scratch build a mount to hold the stock wheels and tires. The exterior mirrors, the gear stick and the decals for the tire labeling came from the parts box. The boday was painted in light ivory and chocolate brown, 1K clear coat on top of that. The model is inspired by a corresponding vehicle from the TV series "The Americans": (Copyright: www.imcdb.org) I didn't manage to compensate all downsides of the kit, but I hope there is some similarity to the original car. 18
Rob Hall Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Nice...I liked that show, I esp. liked all the 70s-80s Buicks and Olds full sizers in it. 1
espo Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Great looking stock Nova. The paint looks nice and smooth, and the brown shade was a popular color at that time. Trim is cleanly done. 1
karbuildr Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Excellent Nova. I too enjoyed that TV show, very well done. 1
LennyB Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Nice, I drove a similar looking 1980 Nova back then except it was a 4-dr. 1
Phildaupho Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I never thought I would see a model of a car from The Americans. I enjoy the model as I did the TV series. Well done. 1
stavanzer Posted January 12 Posted January 12 You got the 'look' right the first time. Cross-kitting the '72 & '76 worked like a charm. That is an excellent replica. Good Show.
