Fat Brian Posted January 6 Posted January 6 The decals are a bit of a let down. I was hoping for a full set of Z28 decals since they just made new artwork for them for the Revell snap kit a year or two ago.
espo Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Looks like a great Camaro kit to build off of. Only rivet counters will notice that the front license plate should be mounted on the passenger side on the front bumper.
kurth Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Oh wow this is the 1/24th kit, one of my favorites. I will need to get this one. For some reason I thought this would be the 1/25th revell kit. I think the no chrome is a plus, since the only thing I would really want to be chrome on this one are the headlight buckets. The decal sheet looks very nice.

Maybe so David, but since this is a model of the show's car, the license plate location is accurate. 1

It isn't about the car but the optional accessories: The old Monogram Camaro has one of the best looking Smallblock Chevy supercharger setups available in 1:24 scale and the BBS wheels look better with plated edges.

Nothing I can’t work around.
Ulf Posted January 7 Posted January 7 No kitcrome actually attracts me, Revell may well release their 32s in an ”unplated edition”, u as in Ulf. 2

That may have been the case on this car in this movie. Check Google Image Search and look at the photos of real cars that are registered and driven for real, and you will notice that Chevrolet mounted their offset license plates on the passenger side in front. This was true not only on the Cameros but on any of their models with an offset front license plate. Why the staff providing the vehicles for the movie mounted the license in this way? Only they could answer that question.

So rivet counters (or license plate location checkers) should be very happy that Revell actually rendered this small detail correctly. As to why the staff decided to do that, who knows why. 3
BKF Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I'm currently working on the '81 Z28 that has the t-tops and plastic tires now. So I'll probably pick up one of these for the no t-top roof. I don't see any pre-mounting of any kind for the front license plate so I'm guessing it could be mounted on either if used.
STU111 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I’m a fan of the gen 2 Camaro, so I’m going to grab one. Just gotta wait for them to hit the hobby shops here in Australia. I do agree with the other post that some Z28 stripes would have been nice on the decal sheet though.
Dragonhawk1066 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) Someone should do some measuring to see if the stripes from the much maligned recent release 1981 Camaro Z28 will fit on the Billy's 1979 Z28. The '81 does include 4 different color choices for the stripes, even though the '81 is 1/25 scale while the '79 is 1/24, I'm skeptical as to the scale accuracy of the '81. If they fit or are very close and not really noticeable, that would give the '81 some purchasing clout, lol. I may try it myself if no one else cares to, but it might be a while. stavanzer Posted January 9 Posted January 9 For the Builders complaining about the stripes and the chrome, Remember this tooling is meant to portray one very specific car. And only that car. What other builders do with the kit is really of no importance to Revell Marketing. Remember that almost all TV/Movie tie in kits are boxed to only build as that vehicle, and no other. That said, I would not be surprised to see this newly revised kit released in a year or two with Chrome parts and the Strip decals. Revell went to the trouble of filling the (not very well liked) T-Tops, and tooling a flat, Base Model hood, so a 3'n'1 kit is probably already on the new release list in a year or two. 1
slusher Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I was so use to T-tops when I built mine it would be strange without them. The biggest part of those Camaros around here had T-tops..
ChrisPflug Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Issue with the '81 kit stripes is that they're a different style than the '79
Robberbaron Posted January 9 Posted January 9 OK everyone, before you get too excited, let's actually look at Revell's handiwork on that new "hardtop" roof: How do you like that "flat as a board" side window profile compared to the real car? I'm taking a hard pass on this one.
