NOBLNG Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) A lot of kits have not much more than a lump for a rad cap. Here is how I make better ones. Glue two pieces of 0.030” or 0.040” half round to a piece of 0.080” round stock. Drill a 0.020”-0.030” (depending on what small styrene rod you have) hole in the center and countersink it slighty with a 1/16” drill bit. Slice off a sliver (I used a razor saw to get a straight cut). Push the small rod in flush to the top (you can add a small spacer if to want to add an overflow tube). Drill a mounting hole in the rad and glue in place. Keep the leftover chunk for the next time you need one.🙂 Edited January 9 by NOBLNG 24 4
TarheelRick Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Amazing how something as simple as a proper radiator cap can add so much to an engine bay. Thanks for the tutorial. 1
Old Buckaroo Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Looks great, this is a most useful tip. Thank you for sharing it. (no more scavenging old kit parts to saw off decent caps) 1
StevenGuthmiller Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Great idea! I've been using something similar, but this appears to be much less labor intensive than the method that I had been using. Steve 3
Andrew McD Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Another excellent tip/tutorial Greg. Thank you for you many contributions! 1
Steve H Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Greg, as mentioned above, your tips, tricks and tutorials are always fantastic. Thanks for sharing. I will DEFINITELY be using this one. I particularly like that with how you did this, it’s kind of mass production. Just trim one off as needed, a real time saver. Thanks again sir. 1
Claude Thibodeau Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Hi Greg! As they say:"you learn something every day". Great idea, thanks! CT 1
NOBLNG Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 Thanks everyone. I get lots of ideas and inspiration from all of you so I am happy whenever I get a chance to contribute something in return.🙂
Joe Lange Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Great idea, Greg! Definitely going to start using this. 1
bill-e-boy Posted January 10 Posted January 10 A most useful tip. Sweat the small stuff and the big stuff looks after it's self 1
johnyrotten Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Very creative, and looks great. I'll definitely be using this. Thanks. 1
TheBEAUMONTGURU Posted January 12 Posted January 12 This is awesome!!! i just went and made a lifetime supply. Only thing was i didnt have 030 halfround so i used 040, and my 080 round is a bit bigger, so my caps are a bit on the larger size. gotta find some smaller stuff, but everyone seems to be out of stock of plastruct and evergreen these days. 1
