Ace-Garageguy Posted January 11 Author Posted January 11 The precip here blew out late last night without a lot of ice buildup on the trees. The electric co-op has already restored power to all but 10 clients, and there's not much likelihood mine will go down at this point...but never say never. Temp is holding right at 32F so nothing's melting, the street in front of my house is solid black ice, as is the parking lot across the railroad tracks. The main road appears to be pretty clear, but I have everything I need and have no intention of going anywhere, other than possibly a walk around the neighborhood while the snow is still around. I always used to go for hikes in a national park a few miles away on snow days, but neither operational vehicle currently has good snow tires, and I'm not risking either one. Snow tires are useless on ice anyway, and I'm not chaining up for just one day. 1
LennyB Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Chain for a Day…..I think that’s wrong, might be King for a Day. 1
Rob Hall Posted January 11 Posted January 11 About 25F today. A few inches of fresh snow over the old snow. I start my Mustang once a week, haven’t driven it in snow since I lived in Colorado over 25 years ago. Got it out for a while w/ my Caddy, Jeep lives outside… 2
Old Buckaroo Posted January 11 Posted January 11 That white stuff is just another day here in Montana. I have two seasons here - work on 1/1 cars and work on model cars. 1 2

There is no contemplation about whether or not you're able to get out in it or not. Either you go about life as normal, or you lock yourself in your house starting in November, (or many times even earlier) and not leave again until sometime in April! It's snowing as I type this, and we're expecting anywhere from 2 to 6 inches, just for today, and around here that barely registers. The only question will be, "will I just shovel, or will there be enough where I need to fire up the snow blower". In my area, a much more important factor as a rule than how much snow falls, is how much wind we get. 4 or 5 inches of snow with light or no wind is barely a consideration. 4 or 5 inches of snow with a 30 mile an hour wind is an all out blizzard! But even with that said, I've still driven the 23 miles in to work on numerous occasions when I've gotten up in the morning and literally could not see my neighbor's house across the street. So far this year, the snow fall in our area has been pretty light, with probably around a foot or so currently on the ground, but that will undoubtedly change before it's all said and done. Where I live, while it certainly can be a nuisance, snow is generally welcomed as much needed moisture that will be highly valued by farmers as it melts in the spring. Snowing moderately right now. Just another day in paradise! Steve 1

stavanzer Posted January 12 Posted January 12 In Central California today it was 70 Degrees, clear as a bell, bright blue skies. I wore a T-shirt and shorts all day. It last snowed here in 1999. 1
slusher Posted January 12 Posted January 12 I think we hit 30 abundant sunshine and the road is melting.. 1
StevenGuthmiller Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Just getting worse here. Probably picked up 3 or 4 inches of light fluffy snow over the past 24 hours, and now the wind is blowing around 35 mph. Add to that the fact that we're at the high temperature for the day at 1 degree, (headed for a low of about 17 below by Monday night) I'd call it pretty friggin ugly! Steve
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 40F and sunny here. Heading out for a hike in the woods before all the snow is gone. B bye. 1
89AKurt Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Wish y'all would quit hoarding the snow! 😜 There is a weather pattern sending all moisture north of Aridzona, been way over 60 days since we got measurable precipitation, and nothing but teases forecast. 1
Rob Hall Posted January 12 Posted January 12 (edited) 31 and sunny this afternoon. More snow coming Tuesday and later in the week. I have next Monday off, but it’s only supposed be 19 then. Typical Cleveland January, last year was milder because it was an El Niño year I think. Edited January 12 by Rob Hall
Claude Thibodeau Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Hi! Here in the eastern Great White North (Québec), we have a second winter in a row with almost no snow on the ground, even mid-january! Many love it, but all the snowmobile dealers and clubs are bummed, as the crates of unsold machines are piling-up. Could be worse: we could be in flames like Cali... CT 2
thatz4u Posted January 12 Posted January 12 here in Ohio, if we don't like the current weather, we wait 5 minutes & it changes.....sometimes for the better other times not so much... 1
Bucky Posted January 12 Posted January 12 We ended up with about 4"-5" here in Leoma, TN. That's just north of the Alabama state line. It's slowly melting away now. 45° at the moment. 1

One cousin's dog didn't know what to make of it at first, but soon figured out that it was fun. My cousin built a "snow dog" replica of him, complete with a stick in his mouth. It was cute with the two "dogs" posing together. 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 ^^^ That's cold. Friendamine worked on the Alaska pipeline in the dim recesses of time, use to tell stories about throwing the contents of a hot cup of coffee up in the air, and it would be brown ice crystals by the time it hit the ground. Yessir, that's cold.

webestang Posted January 13 Posted January 13 We had a bunch of snow/ice last week. Yesterday I finally was able to spin my way out of the alley way where my garage is and got the 99 Mustang out on the street. 1
rattle can man Posted January 14 Posted January 14 I love snow, just not people who don't have a clue on how to deal with it. We got 14 inches of snow a week ago. As of today, some two-way streets are still only one lane wide (even at traffic lights), turn lanes not plowed. People saying their streets haven't been plowed (with security video to prove it), but city says all have been done once, working on second passes. They have moved onto repairing the patches their plows ripped up with ice and water still in them. Gave up on getting someone to plow my driveway Friday and a postal truck slid off of it into my yard tonight. Winter was so much easier in Alaska. Everyone respected it, drove and planned accordingly. Just put down sand (road salt doesn't do much in double digit below 0 temps) and plow only major snowfalls. The pavement will be there in a few months. Along with the mosquitos. 2
