Mark Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Atlantis ought to be making sure buyers know they are getting the Revell parts packs. I have heard that some potential buyers are passing on these kits because they don't know what's in the box. Too, they need to run those suspension parts through the plating chamber... 1

LOL In spite of the 23' designation, I will still buy this kit as I appreciate Jim Keeler's input and his involvement with these re-releases. Oh, so will I and repack them in my original box! LOL! Just wish they would bring back the hemi into these kits! 1

These kits were way before my time, and only if/when HPI Guy does an unboxing/build do I get any sense of what is included, and what I might do to put my own spin on it. I very much appreciate Chris' Mooneyes dragster build, and that is one Atlantis model I plan to get. I've not seen anyone review their Yellow Fever Fiat, and I'm somewhat interested in getting that one. In general, I'm very critical of Atlantis' illustrations/paintings, graphic design and box marketing. They need to do a much better job selling to normies, casuals, and the curious. A few years back, a lot of builders were unpleasantly surprised by Atlantis' ex-Revell 57 Caddy, not knowing its super-vintage origins, the fact it had a multi-piece body and plastic tires, or that it was molded in red. Knowing is half the battle. 1

Looks like the Ford again, unless they dug out the Pontiac or Caddy for it. But due to the lack of detail on that artwork blob of an engine, who knows! Edited February 26 by Daddyfink
tim boyd Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Here's one of the early 1960s originals that I built up maybe around 20 years ago or so. Looking forward to the new release! TB This is an early 1960's Fuel Altered built almost entirely from the old Revell Parts Packs. It is also essentially identical to the "Sanitary T Bucket" in the uber-rare Revell Sanitary T/Mooneyes Dragster Double kit released only once in 1963. It uses the T frame parts pack with the rectangular section frame rails, the Blown Chevy parts pack V8, the suspension parts from that also very rare parts pack, and the '23T Cal Automotive body parts pack. I commissioned the custom decals from Steve A. in California, and are my way of honoring my long time modeling buddies Tom Woodruff and the late Chuck Helppie. A few more pix follow.... 7

Part of the attraction of the Keeler's Kustoms is two engines in each kit. The "Jade Grenade" build up I've seen on this new release for months shows the Ford engine. I'm curious to what the second engine will be. The SBChevy with a belt driven supercharger mounted between the valve covers (originally in the "Scarlet Screamer") would rock my world... 3
Bugatti Fan Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Wouldn't it be nice if Atlantis got hold of those Renwal moulds for the Virgil Exner Revivals. Not holding out much hope though as the moulds in all probability might have been scrapped years ago. Likewise those 1/24th scale Merit racing car kits from the 1960s. The moulds were sold to a company in Italy, but as far as I know we're never released again. The surviving Alfa Romeo and Talbot Lago moulds from Merit went to SMER in the Czech Republic. Not sure what happened to them since. Someone mentioned Atlantis ?

New generation, I guess. Adults leave the room for a second and all kinds of crazy things break out in marketing Round2 has it's issues as well with their 'whale tailed' Daytona tinned kit and the latest reissue of the large scale diecast Dodge shortbox with the fine print on the box informing us it's powered by a 4 cylinder mitsubishi engine 🤣 1

There actually was a N.A. Mitsubishi 4 cylinder diesel as an option for '78 or '79.

Iirc, it was actually a mitsu six in the full size Dodge. The diecast in question is the former 1/18 LRE, reboxed as a regular D150 tribute to law enforcement. I think some snowflake actually had the D50 specs in mind as the term MCA Jet was mentioned. I've owned both a '79 lre and a 2.6 powered lebaron and it seemed like they were slightly different powerplants Interesting thing is that no one employed there had enough knowledge to catch the error before printing. I stand corrected on the engine. Here's info for those interested : Diesel [edit] The 1978 models also saw the introduction of the second diesel-powered Dodge pickup truck. Available as an economy choice in the D/W 150 and 200 trucks was Mitsubishi's 6DR5 4.0L inline six-cylinder naturally-aspirated diesel, rated at 105 hp (78 kW) at 3500 rpm, and 230 N·m (169 lb·ft) at 2200 rpm. The diesel used standard Dodge manual and automatic transmissions via a custom adapter plate which had the B/RB Big Block V8 bolt pattern. This rare factory option, VIN code H, was the result of the 1973 oil crisis and the collaboration of Chrysler and Mitsubishi.[3] The engine, while being trustworthy and having far better economy than any other engine in the Dodge lineup at the time, suffered from low power output and was considered to be underpowered by American standards, despite having been previously used in the Japanese 3.5-ton cab-over Mitsubishi T44 Jupiter Truck and in industrial applications. It was not available in California. Because of the low sales, it was phased out quickly, and as a result, it became practically a single-year specialty.

What kit or parts pack are the crazy SBC headers from? Very cool and perfectly suit the build. 1
tim boyd Posted March 3 Posted March 3 2 hours ago, Ragtop Man said: What kit or parts pack are the crazy SBC headers from? Very cool and perfectly suit the build. Bob, if memory is serving me correctly, the entire engine with blower assembly and those headers came from the relatively little known Revell #C1107 '63 Corvette Sting Ray V8 Engine Parts Pack. This was among the last of the Revell Parts Pack offerings to be introduced, and it was not included in Revell-Monogram's somewhat ill-fated reissue of the old Revell Parts Pack in the late 1990s (that series did include the 283 Chevy V8 Parts Pack, which was entirely different than this Sting Ray based engine tool). Most of the components in the Sting Ray parts pack later resurfaced in the 1968-ish modified reissue of Revell's 1957 Chevy Bel Air kit. For those who want more info on this, I recall covering it in more detail in my "Collecting Drag Racing Mode Kits" book from CarTech. Cheers...TIM 2

When Pete (Atlantis' owner) talked about all of this at last year's IPMS Nats Seminar he mentioned that once all of the tooling was divided up both "sides" wound up with things the other company was supposed to get. Pete said they (Atlantis) were not going to spend physical money to obtain TD (and other) tooling but were working with Revell on a tool by tool basis to swap things back to where they belonged. Last Summer Atlantis still had more than 600 sets of tooling they hadn't even opened yet. 4

Tooling made in China STAYS in China. Not saying it will never happen......just most likely not. There is a book 'China: the 100 year marathon' that talks about this stuff. Bottom line is if you try and get your tooling out of China it gets lost or damaged beyond use. LOTS of stories out there about this. Thx 2
