Started this before I joined the forum. Heavily z'd frame and channel job. A recent order from iceman included the frenzel, sorta got interested in this one again. Not sure how ratty I want to make it, bit the plan doesn't include pretty. More like a couple kids with tools got their hands on grampa's old truck.20250112_173913.thumb.jpg.9c2cad087da325bc20e192752a02fbb0.jpg20250112_173902.thumb.jpg.33e7f07a444b0214ecfe83820cc7b357.jpg

Started on the interior last night. I'm looking to have this look old, ratty but not raggedy,  if that makes sense. Wrapped the seats and a quick half thinned coat of paint. Started making up some door panels,  did the same. The door panels will have a bit of detail,  nothing crazy as these trucks were simple. Maybe a pull strap or length of chain, I spotted some that may look correct. Going to build some window cranks, and thinking about putting a vw beetle dash in place of the stock one. I fit one up, it can be made to work, but the one I have isn't any good, poor detail and such.

That's one heck of a channel job.  Looking good.

Thanks, the floor on this kit was separate,  made it easy. All the  real work is on the firewall for engine clearance and the bed. And trimming the seat, had to remove almost a quarter of an inch.

Got a little bit work done on this. Added some fishplates where the frame was z'd, trying to make it look home built. Also painted the frame. That is actual rust scapped off some material I have lying around, figured I try it. Made a few rust holes in the cab, and a couple bullet holes for good measure. I don't want it reached out, just ratty. The frame's gonna get some painting, over the rust. I want a thrown together look. Scratch built these door handles out of 24 Guage wire and styrene,  the rest of the door panel is cardstock and some thin woven material I found at work. And a paper bag.

Started weathering the cab and bed, and added a few scabbed on patches to gramps old truck. I also toned down the amount of rust on the frame, the black right over the rusted frame gives it a good look, no preparation,  just spray bomb it. I think with rust on the cab/bed, I'll get the look I'm going for. Thanks for looking.

Got the rusting finished, tedious process to say the least. Hung the door panels and tried to get a good photo. Next time I'll try opening the doors. Made the bed floor, I've got 60something imitation bolts to make now. I used coffee stirrers, alcohol ink and a gray wash. There's gonna be a change in the drivetrain department, the flathead from iceman collections with the frenzel. The kit motor just looks like a lump, and everything is wide open on this truck. Maybe it'll get a quick change out back.

Great weathering! It's going to be a cool little truck when it's finished

Thanks, it's a tedious process,  at least for me. I'm actually using real rust, "gluing" it down with createx, then light airbrush work and dry brushing before a dull coat sealer. I'm working backwards, to make it appear like the rust was hastily rattle canned over. The wood bed floor is darker in person,  the lights on my booth "blows out" cellphone cameras.

Great work John! That is really looking authentic.😎

Thank you. It's a little difficult for me to not go overboard. I'm trying for just "enough". The weathering gets "more" rear to front as if it was partially tarped or under a lean-to. I don't have any reference pictures I'm using, just everything I've ever seen in rural New York. I appreciate your compliment.

I applaud your weathering John. It’s always difficult to know when to stop. Following along.

Thank you. You are definitely correct about knowing when to stop, these things get a mind of their own sometimes.

Fabulous work throughout here John. The rusty frame is extremely well done, love the fish plates detail. The wood bed is really nice too, I’m considering a wood bed for my current shop truck, but might chicken out. Interior and body are also weathered just the right amount. Very nice work sir!

Thank you. I decided to do the fish plates to make it look more "home built." Unfortunately the rear one's are kinda covered by the bed, but that's what would happen in the real world, so you can say it "accurate". The wood bed really wasn't that difficult, but this is ratty, a pristine one could be a pain. The worst part was drilling the holes, and the bolts I've made since I've posted these pictures.

I love it!  Great job.

I did something similar on my 1:64 farm diorama using a hotwheels truck.
