bluenote Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Hi Everyone, when cutting parts off of the chrome plated trees, I need to touch up the part that I've removed. Years ago, Testors Chrome enamel paint was perfect. unfortunately, it was discontinued years ago. I have tried the molotow pens, either straight from the pen or empty into a jar and brushed on, and it never seems to work. It always ends up as a silver metallic, not shiny chrome. I have shaken, stirred, etc, and it never seems to work. Any suggestions? (I only need it for part touchups, I use Baremetal foil for window trim, and I'm very happy with that) Thanks!
Hi-Po Posted January 13 Posted January 13 I gave up on the Molotow pens years ago and now my go to chrome touch up paint is Green Stuff World Chrome Metal. This is a brush on paint and there is also an airbrush version. For the best results when using the brush on version, dab the paint on instead of using brush strokes. This is great stuff for small touch ups as it really creates a chrome like appearance. I have used the airbrush version with great results and it will take rough handling with no problems. I alternate my chrome work between Alclad and Green Stuff World and kind of prefer the Green Stuff. 1

espo Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Another product to consider, the Gundam Marker EX pens work well, and I have had good lock with their Chrome pen. 1
1972coronet Posted January 13 Posted January 13 I bought one of these a few years ago, and it's perfect. I simply "jab" the felt tip to release the paint ; put it in a dollar store water colour tray , then use what I need via paint brush. StevenGuthmiller Posted January 13 Posted January 13 I use foil for most of my touch-ups. sometimes those small areas can test your patience, but hey, what else have I got to do? Steve
Old Buckaroo Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Are you talking the Model Master Chrome Enamel ? Ive been in several hobby shops that still have the MM paints even though they were discontinued years ago. Ive also seen sellers on ebay selling off new old stock MM paints very reasonable. I still use MM enamel paints and keep my supply up. Let me check my reserves I may even have a jar or four or five. I never lived close enough to stores to buy only a few jars at a time. When you'd travel 200 miles RT - make it worth the trip.
bluenote Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 thanks for all the responses guys! I think I'm going to try AK super chrome, that looks to be what I need.

No, I'm referring to the old testors square bottles and this one was simply called chrome. it looked just like liquid chrome, no metallic, etc. I decanted the molotow pens into an empty jar, and after a few months, it's all settled. When I shake it and stir it, it doesn't look like liquid chrome, but rather simply a metallic silver with visible metallic.
Mike 1017 Posted January 14 Posted January 14 I still have a can and a bottle of Testors Chrome. I have to dig them out and try them. Thanks for the reminder Mike

I was looking at reviews as well on Youtube (Barbatosrex), and the Green Stuff seems to be better than AK super chrome for brush applications. Thank you for your suggestion (and everyone else's as well)
