Hello everyone,

it´s been quite a while since I posted a new build. A few repairs and restoring projects but nothing really big deal!

So I decided to finally begin a new build and again, something not everyday like!
I found the pics of this truck in the web and thought that might be a nice build, especially when you consider
that it´s supposed to be the last of its kind. At least that´s what they say where I found the pics.

Before I actually start building I have a question to the pros here who really know lots about trucks:

Can anyone tell me where exactly the tilting of the cab happens?

I´m pretty much convinced that it´s between the two grilles but I´m not 100% certain. First I thought that even
the bumper might be tilting with the cab but also without certainty.

If anyone can give me an answer to that before I start printing that would be really great!

Thanks in advance for any well-founded information!

For the beginning here´s some pics of my first design attempts:

Thanks for looking!

JM…… your designing looks spot on , you certainly have that skill nailed down . Just looking at the cab , climbing in and getting out must’ve been a precise movement. And those old school cans were sure narrow. Must’ve been a tight fit for some 🤭😆

I hope you get the info you are looking for Bud.

I just finished the design of the Cat 1673. I know, it´s not 100% but since there seem to be so many variations of this engine I chose pictures that seemed to be very close to the one in this truck.

Anyway, I did my best and decided that it´s OK! So all engine specialists, don´t be too hard on me!

And here´s a view from the rear into the dog house!

Jürgen, you're getting very proficient at producing your 3D modeling and, I know I've said it before, but a resin printer might be a great add to your modeling 'toolbox".  Good work!

Thanks very much! I appreciate it!

I'm still not convinced that a resin printer is better for me! Not that I'm not aware of the advantages, I am, but I also heard about the mess it makes and the smell of the solvents in the resin. At least that's what I've seen on several tutorials.

Still I haven't stopped thinking about it! For small parts it's surely the better choice!

Got the first parts printed. Cab front and rear.

Next are doors and a few other parts that will be painted in body color.

The chassis and bumper, engine, roof and interior will be printed in white.

I'm back! Had a flu and couldn't even think of the bench!

Now I'm at least feeling better. Not over the hill completely but no more fever. Couldn't wait to get back to the bench and did a little pre-assembly while I reactivated my printer to produce further parts!

That's it for now. Chassis is in construction.

Great progress, Jürgen - did you design your rear ends/suspension, too?

Thanks!

Yes I did! I used the pictures I had and tried to design it as far as visible. Therefore surely not perfect but it does the job!

Now, that’s going to be an impressive and unique model! It’s very cool and great work so far. You are 3-D design skills are amazing! Looking forward to your progress!

Thank you Ron! Glad you like it. Some parts I can only design when the assembly is almost finished and some parts such as shift tower and other non visible things I'll have to use my imagination!

These are the 3D-drawings of the suspension with torsion bar and rear axles:

IMG_20250202_094918_1382.jpg.1c9ca767eee0790d72a24aaebb02b205.jpg

I drew them as far as possible but not much is visible on the pics so I used pictures of similar suspensions to fill the gaps! Sort of like Jurassic Park for modelling!

I designed new brake chambers that look more like the ones on this truck.

Here's the assembled chassis:

And a view of the new brake chambers.

Can anyone tell me what this big white bracket on the rear axle is?

Screenshot_20250202-1219502.png.27b1072172b424d27faec8ab346e2485.png

I couldn't find any pictures of it cause I didn't know what to look for!

Is it on both rear axles? Same side or opposite? What's it for and what does the whole thing look like?

I'm greatful for any infos!

Thanks very much Scott!

Now I have a clue what to look for! 👍

I couldn't find a picture with it on that specific Marmon Herrington setup only generic , Hendrickson setups

Thanks very much! Could have thought of that too! 🙈

So now I can design it as far as possible! Just didn't get the idea cause there's no rod visible! Must be behind the rear cross bar!

A bit of progress.

Designed the panhards with brackets and fitted them in.

IMG_20250203_141136_4642.jpg.dc893ede1839b9a18f12b2962bb04fd5.jpg

I mounted the rear wheels. Mocked up engine and drive shaft.

IMG_20250203_171411_325.jpg.5e5e9c56ca710266148b0cdc01f8b1b4.jpg

After having mocked up the front axle with wheels I realised that it was two low making the chassis rise up in front.

So I reduced the space between axle and springs and now it's straight and levelled. Axle now glued back on.

I forgot to post this so I'll just do that now!

It shows most of the printed parts up to the time shortly before begin of assembly:

The seats don't really fit this truck so meanwhile I designed new ones. The other ones will wait in the box for future projects!
