BK9300 Posted February 10 Posted February 10 You're making excellent progress, Jürgen - always issues to overcome and you always find solutions for yours! 1
Jürgen M. Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 Thanks! That's what modeling is about to me. Building out of the box was yesterday. I rebuilt or refurbished practically every kit I had built out of the box. Back when I had built them I didn't have the skills or the knowledge to customize. Today I might not have the knowledge of most of the guys here but it's far more than 40 years ago and it's fun learning more here everyday. It's satisfying to hear all the compliments about my building skills. Thanks very much to all! 1
Jürgen M. Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 The cab tilts so I can now do the plumbing on the exhaust and air cleaner. 1
Jürgen M. Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 (edited) This is the ball joint for the shifter. Made a cube instead of a ball though. Don't know if I can make it work. Isn't really neccessary so maybe I'll just glue it in to the correct position but at least it looks like it could work! Edited February 11 by Jürgen M. 2
Jürgen M. Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 9 hours ago, Rockford said: Good idea on the smaller wheels and tyres. Looking great though, either way. Looking at it, could you narrow the track of the front axle too? You could alter the wheel backspacing so they sit further into the wheel well? Just a thought. I'll give myself a smack if you feel I'm out of order. The only disadvantage of the smaller wheels is that now all tires are the same. Before I had been able to take over the different tire type on the rear axle.
Jürgen M. Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 Air cleaner is in position. Exhaust plumbing is in construction. Have to correct a bit, then pics will follow! 2
Jürgen M. Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 Exhaust and air intake plumbing are done! Next will be the fuel tanks! The straps will be made of cable ties. 4
cifenet Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Looking better and better each time you add components to it. I still can't believe all parts are 3D printed and that you are assembling them as if a kit was manufactured by AMT or Revell.
Jürgen M. Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Wow, thank you! The parts surely don't have the surface quality of kit parts but all together I think I can really be satisfied! I keep trying to improve the Print quality and it's getting better. Glad you're enjoying the build! 1
Jürgen M. Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 (edited) The shift linkage is partially installed. The rest will follow shortly. Also the fuel tanks are attached. Now the straps will follow! I also had to design a shift tower, not knowing what this specific one looks like. At least it fits under the cab! Edited February 12 by Jürgen M. 2
Jürgen M. Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 (edited) One of the fuel tanks is "strapped"! The other one almost! I'm working on the doors now! Had to print them again cause during the first attempt of fiddling the hinges together some of them broke off! This time it worked! The rod standing off belongs to the mirror frame. Now I have to paint the doors! I'm glad I mixed a good amount of that cab color! Edited February 12 by Jürgen M. 2
Jürgen M. Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Both fuel tanks are strapped! I also improved the air intake. It was too big and I made a curve so the top sits straight again! Turning signals are also in place! Just need the orange! 2
Biggu Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Wow. Very cool. Lots of details. You should be very proud. Really good job ….
Jürgen M. Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 The doors are in place and the cab sided hinges glued on. Hope it stays tight. There's not much area to glue on! I'll wait very long for it to dry hard enough. Honestly, if any hinges break again I'll glue the doors in and that's it! Maybe one opened and one closed!
Jürgen M. Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 My next steps will be the marker lights on the roof (that's the easy stuff) and I guess I'll begin with plumbing and wiring! As soon as the doors are functional I'll finish the mirrors and then I'll do some of the small stuff. Tail lights, horns, one of the brake chambers broke off, then a bit of weathering on the frame and the wheels. Still a lot to do.
BK9300 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Marvelous how it all comes into being, starting with your ideas inside a software program, Jürgen - great progress!
Jürgen M. Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Thank you! Very nice of you to say that! I never would have dreamed that my builds would be liked by so many of you! I'm really greatful!
Jürgen M. Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 (edited) The doors work! Which brings me to the next little problem: The inside door panels! I actually forgot that the dash is quite close to the doors. Means I had to change the design of the doors panels a bit to make them fit. Otherwise the doors wouldn't have closed anymore! Work causes more work! That's the way it is! Edited February 13 by Jürgen M. 1
Jürgen M. Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 Just took another look at the truck pics! Now I know what I did wrong! The dash should be completely out of range of the doors! Not gonna correct that anymore! I changed the design of the panels a bit. Not original, OK but useful! 2
Jürgen M. Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 Some more progress: Did some wiring and plumbing! It's my first attempt so I hope the pros among you will over look the layman like implementation! Also made mirror brackets: 2
Jürgen M. Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 Concerning the inside door panels I had another Idea today! I'll just paint the inside of the doors in beige like the interior and make some handles and window cranks to stick on. Might just be best solution! I'll give it a second thought and then you'll See the results soon!
Rockford Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Jürgen, what a fantastic job you're doing. Not easy doing everything for the first time. on the door panels, could you cut them down to just the door card and fill them to suit? Shame to waste them. Your plumbing looks great.
Jürgen M. Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 Thanks Steve! You´re probably right, it would be a shame to waste them. I´ve been thinking about that too. Glad you like the plumbing. Still have to make the fuel lines, tail lights with wiring and of course the air lines. I´ll have to make those to tuck in at the rear of the cab cause otherwise you wouldn´t be able to tilt anymore but I guess that´s probably how it works in real too!
