RoninUtah Posted February 4 Posted February 4 it was a gloomy, dark day in northern Utah today, not exactly conducive to good model photography, but sunshine is not forecasted for another week and I finished this build over the weekend. And, well, I've never been known for my patience! So, here it is. It's a "Next Gen" Kenworth T680, with a 70" high rise sleeper and most of the bells and whistles of a brand new truck. It's a curbside model, with a complete interior but no engine or rolling wheels. It's a good mate on the shelf for my A&N W990, along with my new-style Cascadia, Peterbilt 579, Italeri Volvo and Moebius Internationals. Together with my W900L and Pete 389, I now have models representing about 90% of the highway rigs I see on the freeways around here these days. That wouldn't be possible without 3D printing. The cab is printed from a design by Alfa Centauri on Cults, who (IMO) is the best big-truck 3D designer on the site I've seen yet. It was designed in 1/14 to fit on a Tamiya chassis, but it scaled down to 1/25 without any issues and printed up just fine with a minimal amount of post-processing work. There were a lot of separate parts, which fit together well. The chassis is a Revell KW (originally from the Level 5 wrecker kit) and the wheels and tires are from Moebius. Paint is Testors Tangerine, airbrushed from the tiny bottle, along with Revell chrome spray for the big pieces and Molotow for the details. So, enjoy! 8
Old Buckaroo Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Wow - Outstanding. If that truck had some ice blockage build up and grime - Id swear it was real! 1

The driver stopped at Love’s to give it a good wash after the trip from Denver over I-80 across southern Wyoming! 1
BK9300 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 That's an awesome looking rig, Ron - I need to check out that designer on Cults! 1
Dutzie Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Very beautiful truck build! The color looks great. I have seen Alfas work but haven’t pulled the trigger. I will now! Great job. 1
Scott Eriksen Posted February 4 Posted February 4 That looks outstanding! And the Tangerine paint job justs begs for some "Allied Van Lines" decals or "Schneider " 1
vincen47 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Excellent! Another beauty from your “Trucks of Today” series. I like the outdoor photography, too. You certainly live in a scenic area of the country. This might be my favorite modern truck you’ve done so far. 1
iamsuperdan Posted February 4 Posted February 4 That turned out really nice. Will have to investigate his designs. 1

Alfa is the designer who also did my second-gen Freightliner Cascadia, which I built before I got a 3D printer. My buddy Bren very generously printed it up for me, and that's what inspired me to get into it. Alfa's Cascadia design is also top quality and turned out nicely, I posted it here a while back. Some of Alfa's stuff is being printed and offered for sale by Global Scale Models, so if you don't have a 3D printer you can try them. 1

I'm very lucky that way. My place is between two major ski resorts, overlooking a mountain lake, so I have no complaints; when it snows too much to get out, I stay in until my snowplow guy can get to me! I shoot all my models using an older Canon T1I; I have a little folding table and a piece of particle board, painted flat black. I put the model on that, and then I can crouch down to get low-angle shots for a more realistic looking view. A quick pass through Photoshop to crop, straighten the image and balance the lighting and color, and I'm good to go! 1 1
RoninUtah Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 Here it is pulling a 53' reefer. Trailer by Moebius, of course. 3

Jürgen M. Posted February 5 Posted February 5 🙈 Just noticed the mistake! It was supposed to say "cean and tidy" work! 😂 Didn't know you have a German vocabulary! Well spoken (written)! 😊

Jürgen M. Posted February 5 Posted February 5 But correct! 😊 Thanks for trying! I appreciate and respect that! 1
vincen47 Posted February 6 Posted February 6 (edited) Looks even better with the trailer. I hope Global Scale can add this one to their lineup. I wonder if Alfa has a T660? That would be a great build. I’ve always liked the T660 Kenworth. Edited February 7 by vincen47 1

I haven't seen a buildable T660 on Cults yet; neither Alfa nor Hora have one. Alfa has a T2000, which I've downloaded and will get around to printing and building one of these days. I agree, the T660 is the missing link between the original T600 and the T680 and a good looking truck in its own right. 1
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted February 7 Posted February 7 First of all; Excellent color choice! Second, Excellent subject choice! Very nice work on this one, it looks great! Top notch photography!! 1
cifenet Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Super massive looking, I am thinking it is really big and heavy in person! Nice choice of color, and you did an excellent job making it look awesome! 1
