Yep, it was part of the Elegance Series. All were molded in color, had tinted glass, and special parts. Among them were the 34 Pickup, 32 Vicky, 57 Chevy "Lemon Peeler", the 57 T Bird "Wonder Bird", and I know I'm leaving a few out.

Thanks for Commenting Dave. I knew you would know about it. Is that the 427 Ford from the '32 Vicki/Phaeton kit? If it is, it would be an easy Kitbash.

No hemi. 5 spoke mag wheels, tires and headers were unique to this issue.

Neat Pic of the Contents. Thank You!

Was the Chrome Tree that stripped down in the original?

Yes.  AMT blocked off all parts not used for that issue.

There were six kits in the series: (yellow) '65 GTO and '57 Chevy, (pastel blue) '32 Vicky and '55 Nomad, and (red) '34 pickup and '57 T-Bird.  All had blue tint clear parts, and an extremely small can of clear pearl spray paint.  None included a decal sheet to my knowledge.

Most of the time these kits are missing the can of pearl spray paint.  One eBay sellers tried to pass that off with "this kit was originally sold in California, they didn't allow the paint to be sold there"...nonsense, it was just missing like most others that turn up!

Yes, six kits.

  • Haulin Henry - 1934 Ford Pick Up
  • Lemon Peeler - 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Hardtop
  • Short Hauler - 1955 Chevrolet Nomad
  • Street Sleeper - 1965 Pontiac GTO Convertible
  • Victorian - 1932 Ford Victoria
  • Wonder Bird - 1957 Ford Thunderbird

Re. decal sheet - I think each included a very small decal sheet with merely 2x its name on it. Please note that I might be wrong, but I've seen the odd buildup with decals applied.

Thank you, this is the answer to my question.

I have the "Street Sleeper" 65 GTO kit.

Most parts were deleted from the kit.

I am glad this version was issued before the kit was butchered into the Dirt Racing issue.

Mine came with the paint (Testor's can size) But did not have the stock parts

There was one reissue of the GTO after the Elegance Series but before the Modified Stocker.  That one did have all of the other parts restored to it.

That's all moot now, with the newer Craftsman Plus hardtop kit.  The engine from the old kit is pretty close to a drop-in deal.

Yes, the Corvette Wheel Covers must be what I was thinking of. Thank You for clearing that up!

And, now I know that my Dad built the second edition.

I had one of those Wheels in my stash box for years, but it has gone adrift.

Not the prettiest look for this model...but typical of the 1960s (I still like the box art).

The 1965 re-issue (2334) of this AMT kit with (?) '64 Corvette wheel covers.

Plus some real 1:1 '64 Corvette wheel covers for comparison...

I'm liking those TIRES!

Anyone know if they were issued in any other kits?

The AMT '34 Ford Pickup kit (as well as the Lindberg re-issues) came with an all-chrome 1961-62 Ford Thunderbird FE 390 V-8.

Below is my Ford FE 390 that I de-chromed and painted in stock colors. The FE 427 in the '32 Vicky kit is behind it for comparison.

Thanks for posting Photos of both the Wheels, and Engines!

I have a better Idea what to look for now.

I'll be installing that FE 427 in one of my '34 Builds now.

Thank You!

Those were the tires AMT used in their two Indy car kits (Lotus and Watson roadster).  The Ford pickup used four of the smaller front tires, as did a few other kits.  AMT also had a series of sand dragster kits out around the same time, each of those used four of the larger rear tires as duals for the sand dragster.  Their snap-together "furniture van" kit used a bunch of the larger tires also.  The original AMT company probably scrapped the tooling for those solid Indy car tires, as the Seventies reissues of the Indy cars used two-piece plastic tires.  Those had sidewall lettering that the solid tires lacked, but had no tread detail like the solid tires had.

This thread caused me to splurge on a kit from an auction site. Lindberg release, either severe tire melt or someone used way too much glue on the only assembled parts, the wheels. Also tire melt on the bed cover. So it shall be a hot rod stake body this time, since I've done a hot rod tow truck and a chopped, fenderless hot rod

Man, Hobby Lobby has the '34 Ford on the shelf, with the Sunoco Decals, for 40% off every other week. I'd splurge on on of those, if I wanted another '34.

(and now this thread has made me want another one.....)

Hey, Round2/Steve.

While we are talking about the '34 Pickup, can we please have you alter the tooling on the Chrome tree and get rid of those Horrible, horrible rims that Lindberg substituted into the tool?

Those "Champ 500" wannabe's are truly awful. Can we get the '64 Vette rims, or the original Custom Wheel Covers or just about anything else back in the kit?

Please?

That is the only Flaw in the otherwise excellent '34 kit.

Noted Alan, I'm actually studying some other versions we can do with tooling. Maybe for 2026.

A Tanker or Tractor Trailer would be Cool options! Or maybe some kind of One Ton Variant.

I don't have the most current release, but the 2018 reissue with the original 1962 Trophy Series box art theme, also had an added set of five chromed reverse wheels, which are of course entirely period correct for the remaining contents of the kit....TB

I can confirm that. They are clones of the original Ala Kart wheels, that were tooled up for the 2016 "Mod Rod" reissue. Pretty nice, although I'd like to see the chrome reversed wheels they retooled for the 36 Ford even more. They could reuse the Street Rods issue box art for those, and be somewhat close.

A straight reissue of the Elegance Series "Haulin' Henry" version with the headers and Rader wheels would be most welcome!

On a side note, many of the AMT pre-war hot rod kits would benefit tremendously from having some smaller diameter front tires added: The newly tooled front tires for the '65 Chevelle AWB kit would be perfect for a vintage hot rod!
