Hi!

The great designer Harry Bradley impressed me in 1970 with a series of sketches published in Car Life. He posited that the crop of pony cars could benefit from station-wagon variants. And the results were very nice. So...

Take an AMT 69 Cougar, add the top and hood from a 71 Mustang, and scratchbuilt a lot of body, interior, engine  and chassis parts. Tamya's metallic orange and vanilla interior.

Hours of fun with styrene!

Another cool creative concept, Claude! You should have been an automotive designer!!! Nice clean build and I like the hood arrangement, interior and engine details, and big brakes.

Beautiful looking body work and paint. Looks sort of like what used to be called the "Kamback" look.

Another wonderful build and design concept. The designer would sort of get his wish years later with the introduction of the Cougar wagon in '77 although in a more traditional looking design.

Very KOOL. A 1:1 could be displayed at S.E.M.A

Thanks Michael!

Indeed, it would stand out in a sea of 69 Camaros and 70 fastback Mustangs, wouldn't it?

Actually, when I was a kid, I started drawing cars, and never stopped. The model building is just an extension of it, I guess...

Me too. As a kid, I drew thousands of airplanes, cars, ships, and tanks. I started building hundreds of model airplanes by age six, switched to cars by eight, and created models of Frankenstein and the Creature from the Black Lagoon just to mix things up a bit. Felt I had outgrown the hobby by junior high and began shaping and selling surfboards. Built a kit car (Avenger GT12) in high school, got a real job, worked 40 years, and retired. At that time, I tried to find my old Avenger online but had no luck. However, I did find five vintage MPC Avenger kits. Built an exact replica of my Avenger, which got me back into the world of styrene, glue, and paint. Now, I am once again passionate, content, and happy building wild model cars. Look for two Ford Five-Windows from me soon. It’s been a great ride!

Jaw...on... table. WOW!

"Shooting brake" pony cars were a thing after Detroit got an eyeful of the Volvo P1800, which is cool in every possible dimension.

Designer Robert Cumberford was the pen behind Detroit ad legend Barney Clarke's Mustang shooting brake, built in Italy by Carroziera Touring.  It still looks good today. Ford looked hard at it, but reckoning the body shop investment without incremental units to show for it... nada.

Bradley may have been privvy to some GM workouts of the F-body that were cooking at GM in the era.

You are right. Indeed, I was isnpired by an old sketch drawn by AMC designer Bob Nixon, back when he was working on the design of the... Gremlin!
