gami8630 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 (edited) Ned Jarrett's 1965 Nascar champion Ford Galaxie is now complete. The base kits are two AMT ‘65 FORD GALAXIE 500XL and 1966 FORD GALAXIE 500 7-LITRE, both 3-in-1 kits, re-released from Round2. These two kits were the base kits for a previous build of Junior Johnson's ‘Yellow Banana’, and this time the remaining 1965 body, cockpit and engine and 1966 chassis were diverted for the build. The body has had the front and rear wheel arches enlarged, the production-spec mouldings, emblems, wipers, etc. removed, the race-spec fuel filler and overflow pipes added, and front and rear lamp covers added. For the cockpit, as I couldn't find any images of the actual cockpit of the car at the time, I used a meter panel made from Powerslide meter decals and wheel-cut plastic pipes, a roll cage I made myself from Evergreen rods, a fire extinguisher made from Polar Lights fire extinguisher parts and a seat and steering wheel adapted from other AMT kits. The engine has only added plug cords, and the exhaust pipes have been diverted from Monogram's early Thunderbird parts. The wheels and tyres are from Polar Lights' Talladega. The body colour is sprayed Tamiya TS-93 Pure Blue, although the image is a little different from the real car's blue. The decals are Gofer Racing, but the sponsor decals on the front fenders are diverted from decals that were in stock. The last photo shows Ned Jarrett's son Dale Jarrett's Ford Thunderbird alongside his. This Thunderbird kit was bought and built probably 28 years ago when it was first released in Japan. * Note that the body color in each image varies because the photography did not work very well this time, but the blue in the first image is closer to the actual painted blue. satterwhite78 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Marvelous looking build! Always want to see true Nascar Thunder Chariots!!
bbowser Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Great job! Gentleman Ned Jarrett doesn't get enough recognition for the part he played in NASCAR history.
Volzfan59 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Well done. I love those old Galaxies. @bbowser is 100% correct, gentleman Ned Jarrett doesn’t get the recognition he deserves in nascar history. 1

TransAmMike Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Great job duplicating the old Ford from the best era of NASCAR. 👍
gami8630 Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 Thank you all for your compliments. Converting a production car to Nascar specifications takes a lot of work, but the joy when it is finished is exceptional.
bobss396 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Very nice! I like the decals. I did mine back in 1998 when I was just getting back building. Scale Auto shot it for the contest annual. I've seen lots of photos of Ned's ride and they vary from race to race. I used to get hung up if I couldn't find the exact decals to replicate an iconic car. The blue looks good. I used Testors Racing Colors #16... they had a vast array of current (at the time) NASCAR paints. I still have a few cans.
gami8630 Posted March 9 Author Posted March 9 In Japan, where I live, there are not many NASCAR-loving race fans, so when I receive warm messages like this from everyone, I am very happy.
Belugawrx Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Very nice, clean build of a track monster Yosh !! Sits just right (2thumsup)
Bainford Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Lovely build of Gentleman Ned's Galaxie. Great looking stock car. Nice work.
