Since Round 2 has released the MPC 68 Coronet R/T kit,  what are the chances of them doing a Dick Landy version?

I'd imagine it'd take :

- Cragar S/S rims
- Fenderwell-exit headers
- The blessing from the Landy family for the decals and whatnot

Is this the SS/FA car ? The SS/B car ?

For as much of a Phord and Pontiac freek as I am, I have always loved this Landy car. Sure would be a great one for a private label (MK???) to run!

That would be a way to get some more usage out of the tooling with not much spent on new tooling.

Or a generic drag car with the parts................

Would it be that difficult to take the Revell 68 Charger kit (Dick Landy) and kit bash it with the 68 Coronet?

Shouldnt be difficult,  Revell 68 Landy Charger has the slicks and front skinny tires, Cragers, headers that can be used on the MPC 68 Coronet except the decals are incorrect.  Alot of the racing parts are found as well in the Coronet kit.

Im not sure if Round2 would ever release a Dick Landy version. It would be nice if Slixx would do this sheet again. It’s out of production and pretty hard to find right now it.It has the decals to do the 68 Charger and 68 Coronet. It would make building a 68 Landy Coronet a lot easier.

It would make good business sense for them to reprint this sheet. The last sheet I used on the 68 charger and the big orange side pieces were really brittle.

It would be a good idea and some of these kits I am building with old decals are not real fun to do.

If a 440 car SS/F. More than.likely it's a Hemi, which would be SS/B

Hot Rod Magazine did an article on the ‘68 Coronet R/T and ‘68 Charger back in the day…pretty sure Dick drove the Hemi powered Charger and his brother Mike drove the 440 powered Coronet. I found another pic online of the Coronet and it was labeled SS/FA, so that fits.

The kit should have most of what you need right in the box. Add Cragars and decals, use the slicks and headers from the kit, and you’re mostly there.

It would be neat if Round 2 put a Landy version out, and added Cragars and decals to do that car. The only problem I see with this is that they don’t have any other tools where they can easily put another Landy car out, and also, as this would be the only car they could do a Landy version of, as Mike was the driver, it also would be slightly awkward, for lack of a better term.

It might be a good reason to give us a nice new ‘70-‘74 Challenger tool, with a pro stock version though ;)

Of course, Round 2 could always fake it a bit, by offering a street stock ‘70 Challenger and/or ‘76 Dart with Landy decals, or if they really want to get farther out, offer their Charger 500 or Daytona with phantom/ “What If?” Landy graphics…

I had planned to do the 68 Dodge Coronet to bookend with the Revell Dodge Charger,  as I have a R&R Resin 68 Coronet R/T. But of course MPC reissued the kit. Oh well.

I  have a Landy build of the Coronet on the bench now.

Decals are tough to come up with.

I bought a so so copy of the slixx sheet .....

I've talked to Chuck Boerner about these decals for this car.

So we will see if it pans out..or not

The headers in the kit are garbage btw. And though my intention was use them and keep it box stock....I'm not sure I will though.

The 68 ( and the 69 btw ) Coronet were always SS/FA , 440 auto  as far as I know of

Another Landy if the tooling still exist could be the old MPC Challenger ProStock that was out decades ago. They brought back the Grumpys Toy Vega, why not the Landy Challenger?

Is it hard to get landy stuff licensed? I have a the slixx decals sheet and it's the only way to build a landy car. They're long out of production though.

Here's my 68 landy coronet I made with an original kit a few years back

I believe I have a set of these decals.  They were  included with Hemi Dart decals.  I'm keeping the Hemi Dart decals.  Anybody know what I am talking about?

I have Slixx sheet no.  DL1-1184.  I think it is for Landy's '64 and the '65.  Maybe you could use some of them.  Sorry my scanner is on the blink.

Was the red on the sides of the body a decal you used or painted?

At the risk of being critical, NO 68/69  Coronet,Bee or Roadrunner ran in SS/B, in 68 or 69.  The Street Hemis were too slow for that class after 1967.

Sorry guys, I should have explained -

NHRA ‘classed’ Stock and Superstock by dividing weight by ‘factored’ HP.

Sometimes that was factory HP…..but after 1965 ‘re-factoring’ became more common in SuperStock.

EG - The 425hp 65 Race Hemi was re-factored to 500hp.

For what its worth….the ‘Factored HP’ did not represent the true HP - BUT, NHRA had to fit the slowest and the fastest into 10 SS classes…..most of the Superstockers made way over the factory rating.

Very interesting, Malcolm. Do you have a link to these charts? I'd be interested in other years and classes as well. Thanks!
