Stef Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Hello everyone I've been into American subjects forever, and recently, a model club friend got me into the Japanese tuner scene; VIP/Bippu, Bosozoku, etc. I've bought a few of these great kits from him, just started a Gloria, and did a deep dive into researching these kits to learn more. Aoshima has released squillions of versions of these kits over the years, and I focused for the sake of simplicity on the series of art cars on white boxes with the freaky type in the background. The insane customization of these kits with unique flares, wheels, tires, spoilers, mirrors, extra grilles and taillight options, neat interior bits, and some with stock options, makes for some insane cool models. I had a blast researching and compiling this ordered list of the many different kits I found. I no doubt missed some, so please do add, and please do post your builds! I love love love these cars, and aim to build at least one each of all the different models! Enjoy! 5
stitchdup Posted March 18 Posted March 18 this was the kit with the blue cedric on the top and this was the blue ken n mary 6
Cool Hand Posted March 19 Posted March 19 (edited) I really like these kits just for being so different. Have a few in the stash and built a few. A lot of fun to build, if you dont take them too seriously. Also hunting them down and collecting them is addictive. Once you get a couple, you want them all. Edited March 19 by Cool Hand 5

Sick awesome builds, dudes! Gorgeous colours, fade, stance, and slick finishing and paintwork! Now THIS is what I'm talkin' 'bout! Agreed, I'm already addicted to them, and like Pokemon, I gotta catch em all! My friend tells me the "89" series is very hard to get, as they ran them only once. He also tells me the last 4 cars in my post above means "Hi So", as in High Society. Great models; keep 'em coming for inspiration! I'll aim to post my Gloria once it's done, thanks!
Sandboarder Posted March 19 Posted March 19 (edited) Laurel with a wheel swap and exhaust tips. Great build out of the box. Edited March 19 by Sandboarder 5
Stef Posted March 19 Author Posted March 19 Right you are, Luke! There are squillions of alternate boxings and series, and I was surprised at just how far back their origins go! I should catalogue all these others, too. These are the 5 GC kits I have at this time, and this weekend, Imma blow my next mortgage payment on a stack of others, heh. 2

Kent models are pretty good for these kits, but the japanese shops have great prices. I've seen these kits at 1999.com for as little as $12 each 1

Hondamatic Posted March 19 Posted March 19 (edited) My one gripe about these cars is that they usually seem to lack chrome bumpers (the chrome tree in other versions unplated here) Edited March 19 by Hondamatic 5
Spottedlaurel Posted March 19 Posted March 19 I have a few in the stash, even those with a stock car on the box art often have lots of extra parts. Those I've built so far have been without the wide arches etc, but I did make use of the lowered suspension.... 4

Look at the sparkle of that blue, just wow! Everything you do slays me! Your trilogy of 64 Galaxies, your Datsun gasser pickup, and others I'm forgetting off the top of my head. So true, many of these kits, including my Gloria, do NOT have chrome bumpers, while on the box art, looks like they could be/should be chrome. I've been watching this guy on Youtube, T Garage (https://www.youtube.com/@t-garage/videos), and he's built squillions of these kits. In some kits, parts are plated, and in others, unplated. Seems kinda random, so I like to watch his videos to know what I can expect when I get mine, heh. You've got quite the squadron of gorgeous Skylines there; a very nice collection that has me peanut butter and jealous! Love your custom exhaust pipes, and your black/grey 2-door is giving me Big Dart Energy! Would love to see more pics of these, if that's OK with you! 3 hours ago, Spottedlaurel said: I have a few in the stash, even those with a stock car on the box art often have lots of extra parts. Your Gloria is soooooo clean, and that body/interior colour combo is sweet! Hope mine turns out half as good as yours! Love your red one, too! This is embarrassing; I forget the name of this one, sorry! Did you camber the front yourself? The stance is killer! 2

On both of these I had to use BMF to do the brightwork on the grille, as mentioned above there aren't as many plated pieces as you'd hope/expect. I think most of those in my stash do at least have chrome bumpers, apart from the Celica Liftback (from memory). 1

You're right, I built the car in B029 Barracuda style When unsure whether the bumpers are chrome or not, check 1999.jp for pics Edited March 20 by Hondamatic 2

I'm having a bit of a challenge right now with putting camber on a 90s Cresta, and I'll give your solution a try. And your brightwork is super clean on both; looks factory-plated!

Imma just quit now and commission you to bring all my visions to life! A couple guys in my model club shoot nail polish on everything, and it always looks miles deep and super glossy. I will have to learn how to airbrush and give it a try myself, thanks! 1
Junkman Posted March 25 Posted March 25 I hitherto only collected the stock versions of these kits. I wonder whether this was a mistake, now. 1
