oldcarfan Posted March 29 Posted March 29 A few years ago a local used car lot bought a bunch of ex-Forest Service trucks and sold them locally. I still see some running around. I want to use the AMT OBS Chevy truck as a base and am looking for a company that makes spray paint for it. The color is Forest Service Green FEDSTD595 or FS34350. I found a commercial paint place about three hours away that can put it in touch up cans for $11.99, but UPS shipping adds another $30. I don't currently have an airbrush so I'm looking for a spray can. Does MCW do custom spray cans? I'm not seeing it on their page. The picture gives you an idea of the color and I appreciate any help.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 29 Posted March 29 (edited) I have a can of no-name el cheapo spray that's close to that...dollar store closeout stuff, but it works fine on plastic if it's prepped right. Pastels like that were popular in the '50s, so you could probably find something close searching paint chips online. For what it's worth, the bedside on that thing looks to be a slightly different green than the cab anyway. Good luck. EDIT: Also for what it's worth, a truck painted that color at one plant may not be exactly the same color as one painted at another plant. Those of us in the body biz have to deal with "variants" constantly. Edited March 29 by Ace-Garageguy
slusher Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Here in Tennessee they sod that color truck to the public. I believe our forestry service is a darker green. Go to HL the have some light green in Kyrylon short cuts.. 1
Shark Posted March 29 Posted March 29 MCW no longer does aerosol cans, supplier issues for the small cans. You can try your local auto body paint store, many of them can mix paint and load it in a can. Just make sure to tell them you want the lower volume spray nozzle. I just had a can of a satin blue/green mixed and it was $22.
hedotwo Posted March 29 Posted March 29 FWIW, I sometimes use airbrush craft paints (usually FolkArt) for paints that I want to try and get real close. Mixing these paints are easy to come up with your color and yield an acceptable finish.
Mike 1017 Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Check out Scalefinishes Under Military Colors USA they sell Federal Colors. Alot of greens to choose from. Good Luck Mike
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Also look at Tamiya rattlecan military colors. Though they're flat, you can shoot 'em with gloss clear.
Fat Brian Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Tamiya makes an RAF green that's pretty close to that. It would do in a pinch anyway.
